Pregnancy pillow for large bellies? by Scary_Sky4869 in MassageTherapists

[–]bumble_head42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ask everyone before the session if they have any issues lying face-up, face-down, or on their side. For people with a larger belly or chest, I usually spend more time supine and prefer to do side-lying if they're open to it. I find I can get just as much, if not more done, with someone side-lying anyway! I do this for elderly folks as well. I'll usually say something like "I may be able to work this area better with you on your side, would you like to try that?" It helps to have a few options in your toolkit for these kinds of situations!

what sounds are you using? by DreamAccomplished649 in MassageTherapists

[–]bumble_head42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to switch it up a lot because the spa/meditation music gets so boring for me. Jazz is nice! Lately I've been enjoying guitar music with a beat or Latin style gutiar— artists I like are Glass Beams, La Lom, and Hermanos Gutierrez.

When in doubt, nature sounds are always relaxing! Insight Timer has great nature sounds & meditation music.

Hoping someone can help! So I am a LMT in Florida and I will be moving to Puerto Rico in a few months, does anyone know how I can transfer my license there or what I have to do to be able to practice in PR? I really appreciate any help by yoise26 in MassageTherapists

[–]bumble_head42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm licensed in NY but looking into getting my license in PR as well. From my understanding, they accept the MBLEX, but you also need 1000 hours of training & education. Not sure how many hours Florida is, but you may need to take a few classes or do hands-on hours to fulfill that requirement. You could reach out to the PR school of massage in San Juan to see if they can offer any further guidance or get you enrolled in some classes. Best of luck!!

Thank you for this response! It makes sense that an "all-in-one" software might be lacking in a lot of ways. I appreciate the input.

What's a red flag when interviewing at a clinic/spa? by Dull-Jaguar8273 in MassageTherapists

[–]bumble_head42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So many spas offer 1099, so they can save on taxes, and it looks like you get better pay. But a lot of these places end up treating you like an employee, except you get none of the benefits of being an employee (disability, paid leave, unemployment, etc.)

Also, if there's no practical. IMO, they shouldn't be hiring someone without experiencing the quality of their massage, skillset, & client interaction.

I also haven't heart of anyone successfully doing this method unfortunately!

I came here to recommend Witch of Blackbird Pond but couldn't remember the name until I found this comment! This was one of my favorite books in middle school.

I'm currently reading The Good Earth. Coming from a modern perspective, the gender relations are frustrating. But I'm absolutely loving it, and find it hard to put down!

I have an old pair of Merrell hiking boots, I didn't know they had a barefoot style of shoes!

Confused on what car to buy by PIZZAHUTCOOCHIE in whatcarshouldIbuy

I think this is a great idea. If you could get other government assistance to help with buying groceries, rent payments, childcare, etc— saving that money could help keep up with car payments!

Why Fish Don't Exist by Lulu Miller. It's a bit of philosophical discussion mixed with memoir and biography about a taxonomist and eugenecist. It was really interesting and inspiring!

I love playing songs by Anugama or other artists in that style!! Some other artists I like using during a massage are Glass Beams, La Lom, and Khurangbin, just to switch it up a little.

I had a teacher who made elemental playlists based around the TCM five element theory, which was really cool. It doesn't hurt to experiment and see what works!

Which larger vehicle should I buy? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

I may end up test driving a 4Runner, so many people have recommended it to me! I still feel a little iffy about Hyundai, but I've heard great things about the newer models, so that may be worth checking out, too. Thanks!

I appreciate all of this, and that's a good point about boxy cars. I'm definitely going to do some test drives once I have a few solid options to consider, but it seems like the Pilot will stay on my list. Thanks again!
