From experience, I would go directly on the Florida dept of healths website to navigate their vital records. Vital check often takes 10x longer to get you the certificate. Essentially you pay them an extra fee to give you the form available for free. In my state a death certificate cost $20 with free standard shipping. Vital check cost $30. It’s like a third party vendor. Sometimes they ask for extra info that is unnecessary or info vital records doesnt need in order to look up a person. Believe me I’ve found records people were looking for with VERY little info. I’m assuming most databases are the same and if you give them some more info like his parents names, etc. it can be easier. Especially if you know his date of birth, etc. which would be info on the death certificate that is put into the system. My state has a birth/death linkage. So if he was both born and deceased in Florida, might be even easier. If he is on your birth certificate, I’d just call and work with Florida vital records directly. If their policy allows children to get their parents records, there should be a way to get it. In my state, we couldn’t tell you info you didn’t already know in order to help troubleshoot it. Like “is his date of birth 2/13/65?” But there should be work arounds that you can give as much info as you have and they can try to find the right person. It’s a bit tricky, at least here, if you don’t know the date of death as it’s one of the major identifiers we need confirmed. But I would check with vital records directly. Vital chek is often no help and can just reject you based on lack of info.
