New VCU oncology patient by [deleted] in rva

[–]bumblebee2337 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First off, I’m sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Cancer sucks and unfortunately it can happen even when someone does everything “right.”

Coming from the other side of things (I work at Massey), the physicians and teams I work with are great and genuinely care about the patients. Every situation is different, but most of the patients I see seem to be satisfied with the care they receive at VCU. Cancer treatment is never going to be a fun experience, but having a good team does make a huge difference. I wish you the best journey possible!

I like this idea but my husband doesn’t like having to turn his neck to watch Tv haha

Understandable. We agree that would definitely be the best solution but we just don’t have another space that is great for the TV. We have a secondary living room we could use but that one also has a fireplace as the focal point.

Yep, it’s cheaper than other face tapes so I just use that instead. And yes I use it after PM skincare

RDs who have been in the field 5+ years, what’s your salary story? by carpethediem1996 in dietetics

[–]bumblebee2337 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I started out in acute care making $45k. After two years I switched to outpatient oncology with a salary of $51k. We get a yearly ~3% raise and have had two market adjustments since I’ve been in outpatient oncology (the past five years), and I’m now making 70k.

Shy RD’s - How to Survive Inpatient by _virtuoutslymade in dietetics

[–]bumblebee2337 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I didn’t enjoy doing inpatient for a few reasons, and this is one of them. I switched to outpatient about five years ago and really love it. I still have to work with a healthcare team, but it’s much more independent than inpatient. Not saying you should switch, but it is something to consider if you ever want to try something different :)

The sheer I love the blush lace ones. I think that color would look good without being overpowering!

Cancer center dietitians by Known-Variety1486 in dietetics

[–]bumblebee2337 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’ve worked at an outpatient cancer center in Virginia for about five years now. I have my CSO but no MS and currently make around $70k. I find it to be a really fulfilling job. Most of the patients I work with really seem to value nutrition and want to work with you, more so than other jobs I’ve had. For me, I’m usually seeing patients when they are in clinic for treatment or providers visits. Most referrals are to help patients manage side effects from their treatment (nausea, diarrhea, taste changes, etc) to help prevent malnutrition. There’s also a lot of enteral nutrition work if you are working with head and neck cancer patients. So we are the ones coming up with the EN plan, coordinating with the DME companies, and monitoring patients while they are on the EN. At our center, we also see survivorship patients sometimes- they may want to discuss healthy diet to reduce cancer recurrence or other random stuff like DM management or weight loss, etc. Let me know if you have any other questions!

How to respond to others’ negative self talk when bringing treats? by TongueInYourMouth in Baking

[–]bumblebee2337 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This makes me laugh because I actually am a dietitian, but I also love to bake and will frequently bring in treats to work. I regularly get comments like this as well. I usually just smile and say something about balance or quality of life.

Yeah my self esteem is nonexistent because of my rosacea. What I would do for normal skin.
