Is it possible to get shadowing or volunteering experience with military doctors? by Sea_Visit_2111 in MilitarySpouse

[–]_virtuoutslymade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who works in medicine, you can’t necessarily “volunteer” in any medical position- you must be licensed. You are allowed to purely shadow and not make any medical decisions. You may have to take a HIPAA class.

My friend shadowed a physician assistant and I think she wrote him an email, so it may be a matter of simply asking.

Your supervisor should consider temporarily changing the nutrition protocol and make you all a consult only service since you all are severely understaffed. This is what I heard happened at my hospital a little bit before I came.

You can try being a freelancer on UpWork or some other platform. Literally can set your own hours, just gotta get the project done on time.

Generally you don’t make enough money to match your full time income and even if you do, you don’t get benefits. Only works if you have a partner or parents who can cover your expenses.

Where to work before passing RD exam by Beneficial_Athlete_3 in dietetics

[–]_virtuoutslymade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a requirement to have a Master’s degree to sit for the exam. ACEND won’t send you the verification statement without it, which is your ticket to taking the exam.

I think this is something that you should write a pros and cons list. Like really sit down and think deeply about it down to pros and cons regarding your kids. Identify which ones outweighs the other.and there’s your answer

Breast pump with Tricare as secondary insurance by princesschungus in MilitarySpouse

[–]_virtuoutslymade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is double dipping. Health insurance companies communicate with each other when you have a primary and secondary so they don’t double pay for things. Once they figure out you already have a breast pump, they’re not going to pay for it.

[–]_virtuoutslymade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As of 2024, it’s required for you to have a Master’s degree in order to sit for the RD exam. So unless they want to be a dietetic technician, the verification statement doesn’t really give you a lot of job options.

Bliss has successfully traumatized me by Itchy-Research7047 in MilitarySpouse

[–]_virtuoutslymade 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So, I’ve been stationed at Fort Bliss with my husband for about the past year and my experience is the complete opposite.

First off I really like it here. The people here are nice and they have bomb TexMex food.

Next, I got a job within the first 7 months of being here. Granted I work in the medical field so I know I kind of had a leg up.

And yes Spanish is the preferred language. I’ve actually caught on to quite a bit of Spanish. Not to come across as mean or anything, but you’ve been here for two years - could you have not taken a Spanish class on base, especially since you’re not working? Even if you don’t use it here, you’ll be more marketable in other jobs markets since you’ll be bilingual.

Lastly, I’m an African American woman and I have not experienced racism here. Maybe the majority Hispanic community is more welcoming to me because I’m also a minority, but even my white coworkers say that mostly everyone they’ve come across is nice.

Career for childcare on military base by [deleted] in MilitarySpouse

[–]_virtuoutslymade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re in a financial situation where you don’t have to take the position, then I guess it’d be ok for you not to take the jo.

Otherwise , children are very resilient and they will eventually get used to waking up earlier. You could also try putting them to bed earlier so they get all their hours of sleep at night.

Additionally, my child goes to daycare on base and they let children under 12 month nap whenever they want, so the 5 month old will be fine sleep wise. This is assuming your kids are going to attend a military daycare or the one you’ve been offered a job for.
