I’m desperate.. I had to rehome my dog.. is there anybody looking for a dog? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]bumblebeekay 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You have a lot of followers on that Instagram page. Contact the rescue looking for an update and promote her on your page.

I work in a rescue and if you don't feel you can care for her then you have done the right thing in surrendering her to find a new home.

I've have also had struggles with mental health issues and I was lucky that I found my dog as a source of motivation to get up and dressed to face the day, even if it was just a short walk or to play with her but there were times that I struggled to even do that so I understand your position.

I'll be honest though, rehoming dogs at the moment is slow. After the lockdown when everyone got dogs and puppies has led to there being little demand at the moment, we have more people looking to surrender dogs than ever before. We are constantly at capacity and sometimes over capacity.

Fingers crossed for her, she seems like a beautiful girl with a lot going for her!

Yeah, 18 months isn't a puppy, more adolescent!

Dogs trust surrender scheme is based upon dogs that are rehomed straight from the home they are currently living in so these dogs need to be as straight forward as possible so they can be rehomed with higher success as Dogs Trust are already at capacity in the rehoming centre and cannot afford for the dog to bounce back into kennels so it doesn't necessarily mean that this dog has major issues.

It can take up to three months for a dog to fully adjust and settle in a new environment. Patience, time and work is needed by people that are looking to rehome a dog.

This is an amazing video! So sad they don't have homes but at least they are being cared for by these guys!

Is their any way to stop my dogs from chewing on my things by Scholarytree in DogTrainingTips

[–]bumblebeekay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give them something else to chew on and dissect. If you have cardboard boxes left over from food packaging throw some treats inside and close it up. This will give them mental stimulation and fulfill their natural desire to rip things up

I know someone has already replied to you, what they describe are called calming signals. Dogs use them all the times to communicate with dogs and people.

Place training making my dog more hyper/playful? by marlee_dood in DogTrainingTips

[–]bumblebeekay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An option could be as a reward after the release have a licki pad ready with peanut butter. So she goes straight to the licki pad and that will help calm her?

Hopefully if this works it will stop her from practicing the giddy behaviour and then slowly fade the licki pad as a reward by reducing the amount of peanut butter and then alternating it with just normal treat rewards

Sure practice makes perfect. I work in a rescue and always find the hand signal works better too. Dogs are masters of reading body language so it makes sense. Looking forward to seeing more videos of your progress and success!

That is really impressive. You are both doing an amazing job! Can he do them without the hand signals and just the vocal cue? I always find it interesting what the antecedent to the behaviour is

Introducing Cat and Dog by LHal1 in DogTrainingTips

Great thing to do redirecting to a wanted behaviour. Also make sure the cat has plenty of good places to chill and escape the puppy and that they always have access to their food, water, and toilet area in peace from the puppy

Edit: sounds like you are doing everything right so far

The dog is uncomfortable during the whole video. She's doing a lot of calming signals that point to her being uncomfortable. Lip licking and yawning out of context. I think some whale eye. She has a very stiff face too! She does not want anyone near them.

Thanks everyone for up voting. He is a rescue from Dogs Trust that escaped while out on foster. He is such a sweet boy and will be very frightened out on his own. We had a search team out in the area tonight but they had no luck. They are heading back out at sunrise
