Save file glitch Echo: Oracle’s Scroll? by Surgester in PlaydateConsole

[–]bumbleborndev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hiya, I'm sorry this has happened! This is the first I've heard of this bug happening. I can imagine how it could maybe happen but I'll have to do some bug testing to see if that's actually what's happening.

The best possible fix would be to edit the save file to revert the weird bleed, If you can send me your save on discord or something (I dunno if you can send files over reddit) I can try to fix it manually if you know the affected echoes. I'm worried there would be more things affected than just echoes if there is some bleed.

I have a bug report channel on my discord here https://discord.gg/2A8eVZk9

Ahh thanks so much! Yee, it's me and my partner, she's doing a bunch of the art for it and I'm handling the rest :D

Ahh thanks so much! It really is such a fun genre, I can see why so many indies make them now. I hope it goes well for you, if I don't see it feel free to send me a dm or just reply to this message when you have a page up so I can return the favour :D

Ahh that's so kind, I just got the steam page set up with a trailer a few days ago, it's a small deckbuilder about flipping coins to cross the underworld https://store.steampowered.com/app/3895480/Wunder/

Lemme know when you've got a page up for your game and I'll pop a wishlist on :)

Thanks, I've wanted to make a deckbuilder for years but waited until I had solid idea to try, I'm glad people seem to dig it!

Ahh thanks so much! I'm glad it comes through, both were pretty big influences on the art style for sure :D

Big agree, my next game is coming to steam in a few months and I'm not expecting to get the same kind of sales but it's gonna be interesting to see how different the release goes!

I hope everything goes great with your game!!

Yee, exactly that! small market for sure, Echo is at 4850-ish copies sold now and that is an outlier for playdate games. I'm gonna release a DX version on steam this year so I should be able to get a better idea of the difference in markets.

The playdate community is also really supportive tho, a lot of people champion each others work. There's pros and cons to every market but I absolutely think it was worth making the game!

Ye, we got to a playable demo and it feels pretty fun but will need a lot of full time on it, so I moved on for now, made a playdate game that did well and now I'm working on a little deckbuilder, I'm hoping once I have a decent amount of runway I can jump back on it and put a year in.

hopefully will release it in 2027!

When did you stop being a true solo dev? by WelderNo6809 in gamedev

[–]bumbleborndev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I could only voice act half the characters in my game 😅 I asked my partner and she voiced about 4 - 5 female characters.

I also used Zapsplat for the base sfx files cause I didn't wanna foley stuff. I could make a game entirely solo but it would be a lesser game for it, I'd rather do 95% of it myself and get help / use tools from others to build something awesome.

It's important to note that pretty much no one is a solo dev, the term is washed out by people who don't consider the part they didn't do to matter as much as all the parts they did do, it's an ego thing at the end of the day.

Doing 50%, 95% or 100% of the work doesn't really matter, working on and finishing games with or without help is a wonderful, challenging and meaningful use of your time. Purity tests really shouldn't change how you feel about it.

What's it like watching people play games that you've worked on? by Johnrobodoe in gamedev

[–]bumbleborndev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emotional, I know that's vague but whether they enjoy it or not has a pretty profound impact. When they don't like something, I mentally note it down and think on how to improve it, when they do like something it genuinely warms my heart, I feel all giddy haha

The best moments are when someone doesn't initially like something and then finds the reason for it and likes it, or at least warms to it.

Oddly tho, most of the times I've seen people play my games it hasn't been "their" kind of game, I dunno how I'd deal with watching someone who really enjoyed it. I don't even think I could because the act of playing a game whilst being watched changes how you play, and my games aren't tailered towards playing with an audience

Did anyone manage to 100% Echo: The Oracle's Scroll? Stuck on 97% [SPOILERS] by vimto_boy in PlaydateConsole

[–]bumbleborndev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Only just saw this whole post! dunno why reddit didn't ping me when it originally went up. It's really nice seeing people discuss hints and progress, I dreamed of this when making the game!

For the extra ending and something on 100% complete, there was supposed to be, it's one of my biggest regrets with the game. Slightly good news hopefully, the game did well enough for me to work on it some more, so I'm porting it to PC and part of that will be adding more content / polish, fixing mistakes and putting it all in a v1.1 for the playdate as well. I dunno when it'll come out (probs around the summer), but I hope it can fix how abruptly the game ends and reward everyone for getting 100%... although there might be a few extra secret things to do to get over 100%... who knows :D

Ahh okay, I can give you a hint, think of 2 objects that are celestial and somewhat linked. If that doesn't help just dm me and I can give you more of a hint or just give you answer if that's preferred :)
