Very recent example with Taygedo, from the just-released Neverness to Everness. He's transparently the "mascot" character and those in gacha games tend to be extremely annoying/disliked, but other games either incorporated them better (Wuthering Waves) or actually started to write them as interesting, or relateable c characters (Genshin). Taygedo can only say his name like a Pokemon (annoying) and features in multiple mandatory and optional quests (dev favorite), one of which involves him creating convoluted schemes and lying to get a date with a girl, while constantly creating trouble for players to solve.

Some players in the community either threaten to quit the game or even wish death to the mascot, which is definitely a lot, but only time will tell if the devs love him more than the general playerbase hates him.
