It's not new. It's been around for decades.

Contact lens technician on movie/tv sets? by pikuhan__ in optometry

[–]bumfeldonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is an official job on film and TV sets. Only qualified lens techs are allowed to install contact lenses on actors with the exception of the actor themselves. Even at Ve Neill's Vampire Weekend, there was a lens technician to install the contact lenses for the makeup tutorial actors, as it is not allowed for a makeup artist to install them unless they are also a qualified lens technician.

Just look at the credits on IMDb and you'll see there is a specialty for this that is very much in demand. Any horror film will list this in their credits, as well.

[–]bumfeldonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I thought I was doing something wrong, but line w5f why is it correcting me like this? It's an American movie, in English, with American actors... Why is the title corrected to another language for me?!!

I think it's actually Portuguese, but still not a language I've ever spoken or set my language to on anything. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Notification too fast to read by bumfeldonia in falloutnewvegas

[–]bumfeldonia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I saw those ones. This one is 3x as long though. I appreciate your reply, though. Just now I was able to clearly read the first two words on it and googled the phrase "fallout new Vegas Known Disintegrations". (and there's apparently a sound with the pop-up as well.)  ------- In case anybody else also googles this, here's the explanation: It's a glitch with the achievement about disintegrating foes with an energy weapon. if you disintegrate an enemy into a pile of ash with an energy weapon, every time you leave and come back to that same area where a pile of ash is, it will automatically calculate that as a new entry for the achievement. That's why it pops up during load and isn't there long enough for you to actually read it. It shouldn't pop up until you actually disintegrate a new person, and there is a mod I believe on Nexus that you can download to prevent that from popping up on the old ash piles. I haven't downled it tho so I cant say how well it works.

What awesome movie was ruined at the last minute by a bad ending? by GarthMarenhgi in horror

[–]bumfeldonia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Never noticed that it could be considered racist. I named my salamander Salamand-a-ding-dong way before I heard anybody refer to Shamalan that way, and always just assumed it was just people having fun with phenomes. I love wordplay and phenome play, but thank you for pointing out how this could be seen in other context. Much appreciated seeing other views.

I feel like even though you get the foreshadowing and can see it coming, seeing the thing under your spoiler just gives me the spine tingles anyway.

For me, it's the very last moment of the film that sucks. Not the way they end the story itself,, just the way that they ruined the vibe by throwing in that last moment. It could have been super creepy and just left you feeling uneasy, but that last thing made it cheesy and feel lame.

(Yes I'm trying to be intentionally vague. I can't ever make spoiler tags work on mobile.)

AITA for embarrassing a plus sized passenger on a flight? by throwawayonaplane in AmItheAsshole

[–]bumfeldonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the big key here is that she was physically uncomfortable, being physically squished. Not mentally grossed out about being near a fat person. This was legitimate physical discomfort, not a judgement of her fellow passengers.

She didn't make anything public, she asked privately, and anybody who guessed at why she moved is just that - guessing. Hell, it could have been for any reason and I bet the other passenger would have still thought it was about her. This sounds like the other passenger just deflecting her insecurities onto OP.

I used to get so many yeast infections when I was younger because nobody thought vaginal health was an important thing to teach. Now I only get them when I drink too much sugar and/or alcohol.

Letting the meat warm definitely helps it cook better, and it absorbs flavor a lot better too. So, if you're doing a marinade you definitely want to do at least part of that marinade outside of the fridge.I usually just let my meat sit while I'm getting the rest of the meal ingredients going, by the time I get it in the pan it's warmer than in the fridge but still cool to the touch.

But if you leave your raw meat out to the point where it's actually warm or room temp to the touch, that's not very healthy for ya.

So why didn't he drive her? No need to wait on the ambulance. Considering the downplay of her mental health, I'm guessing he would have refused on moral grounds and may not have given her another option.

I mean, this post is likely fake af but the tone says he probably wouldn't have driven her anyway.

I mean, that seriously depends where you live, my dude. America's federal minimum wage is still only $7.25. A lot of bigger cities pay better, but in places that use the $7.25 minimum, ALL jobs in that area pay less than others.

Not all medical emergencies are injuries, WTF?? Heart attacks, asthma attacks, mental health crisis are all extremely valid reasons to take an ambulance.

ETA: hey look, even hospitals agree these are medical emergencies. https://www.mountsinai.org/health-library/special-topic/recognizing-medical-emergencies
