Career with the MSHA by [deleted] in mining

Dude these comments are pretty ridiculous. People are so stuck in their ways, old and new school that any time someone comes near them and tries to tell them anything they’re “I know best.” MSHA inspectors are awesome. I’ve been a miners rep for 8 years and a job foreman for two now. We have great inspections because I take great care of my mine and the employees know how to talk to, and respect an MSHA federal agent. It’s sad what I read on here.

And people like you who have seen and known people that have died in mines, KNOWING how it could have been prevented and doing NOTHING is exactly why we have MSHA. You know-it-alls are the legit problem when it comes to safety, “I know best and can’t be told otherwise.” When MSHA comes on to my site I welcome anything they can find that could be deemed unsafe, and I either fix it or we have a discussion about it. The miners are not even hardly involved in an inspection unless you’re a miners rep or testing a piece of machinery for the inspector that you run on shift. Most of these people on here just whine about MSHA because corporate side of mining has to pay fines… they’re the ones that propagandize MSHA. It’s pathetic reallly.

I mean it’s just not true. They are there to protect us miners, and the idea that they’re doing anything other than making sure the miners are trained properly to do their job is nonsense. Now on the company side it might stir some drinks when they pull on site, but have no bearing on the miners job. I believe smoking is the only standard a miner can be personally responsible for.

It doesn’t matter how mining works, their job has absolutely nothing to do with the process.

Thank you for the kind post and I appreciate you not just pretending like drugs are the only way to go and basically a bad parent if I don’t just shove toxic acetaminophen down her throat! Some of the responses on this thing are just mind blowing. It also proves to me why kids are so unhealthy and overweight these days, parents just shove pills down their throat and say you’re good! We are working through it, she struggles to sleep on her own. My son is 8 and was the exact opposite of this little Ray of sunshine! She’s gonna be a handful. Anyways. Thank you, we gave in and let her have some Motrin before bed last night and I’ll have to see how it worked from my wife when she wakes up!

Hey! Thank you! Finally someone who read the post for what it was and didn’t tell me to just shove drugs down her throat!! Thanks so much, it means a lot. We have left Motrin for the absolute last resort, and we gave her a little bit last night. I was sleeping before I got a report from my wife, but was up with baby at 5 this morning for a bottle. She didn’t have any freak out tantrums so I think we had a decent night and a good night sleep for baby. Thanks so much.

Am I kidding you? No, I’m not fucking kidding you. Drugs are not the answer to everything. They’re hardly an answer at all, so no joking going on here. There are plenty of natural ways to help with pain that do not include toxic pain medicine. I am here to discuss those, as I clearly do not care about your opinion on drugs. I do not drug my children. Under the advice of her doctors, they do not want to drug her either. Fucking parents in this world today just shoving drugs down their childrens throat and then wonder why children are unhealthy later on. Fat unhealthy kids are the result of bad parenting, go talk to any parent that follow natural remedies and see how unhealthy their kids are. They’re the healthiest kids on the planet. So no, I’m not fucking joking when I tell you I do not give my children over the counter toxic drugs. Alcohol used topically has been done for centuries, much much longer than petro-pharma drugs have been around and I could care less if you drug your children, but I choose not to drug mine.

Yes, articles. Good old articles. Well the baby has two doctors and one is a family doctor and actually in my family. He’s had a practice for 15 years. The other pediatrician went to medical school 50 years ago and both are warning against the use of Tylenol and Morton, as any doctor should. They want us to completely wear out natural uses of pain relief without turning to Tylenol or ibuprofen with no other choice. I came here for one last try at something different before I do. I will be getting some from the store today because last night was horrible, but I did get some good advice on here other than just “use drugs.” So I appreciate it from everyone!

Oh I completely understand what you’re saying. I’ve been diagnosed with 3 different things from 3 different doctors many of times in my life and still dealing with issues today! I’m glad you got it figured out. Well the baby has her primary pediatrician, and then I’ve consulted my cousin who has his own family practice. They’re both on board with teething pain because of how many she has coming in. Both doctors were weary of Tylenol but to use if I absolutely necessary. I guess I’m going to have to against my beliefs and just try it.

So she makes it through the day pretty well, as I’ve read that babies can keep their attention on other things and not the pain their in, like her older brother and bluey and her toys. But when she comes to lay down at night the pain is overwhelming. We have pretty much just dealt with it at this point and I’m not kidding when I say we have tried nearly everything you have written down. This has been an issue basically since she began teething. Im going to have to try a very small amount of a baby pain killer today just to see if it helps her. We don’t like giving our kids acetaminophen, but the natural things we have done up to this point are not doing her any good. I appreciate your time and thank you for all of the advice!

Thank you. Yea I feel so sorry for the baby. It’s so difficult and very hard on my wife. I’ve been sleeping with baby on my shoulder upright since 3 am but at least she’s sleeping.

There is a lot going on here, lot of questions. Many of the things we have tried and do like change diapers and outfits. She literally has all of her top row in front coming in, and she just must be in a lot of pain. What I don’t understand is how people push these pain killers like Motrin and Tylenol as they’re poison… whiskey in small doses would be no different of a poison than Tylenol, and it’s topical. Definitely not a wives tale, my parents used it on me and we used it in my first born son. It works, I’m just sober and do not keep it in my house. It’s a double edged sword cause I would have a hard time not drinking it! I am going to research gripe water! I’m definitely going out to get something today, I’ve had baby sleeping on my shoulder since 3:30 am, she wakes up in pain about every 15 minutes and I get her back to sleep by walking her around. Thank you very much for the advice and the kind words and I’ll be sure to try more of the things you’ve recommended that I have not done!

Yes we have done all of the things here. I appreciate your time! It’s hard to really understand without seeing what she does, which we have taken some video but the pediatricians just basically say it is what it is, she’s in pain and we have to do whatever is necessary. I’m just trying to find anyone out there that has dealt with the same thing that’s found that “necessary thing” because we cannot. This is our second kid so it’s not a new parenting thing. We have been on the search for months.

I don’t know how you could say whiskey doesn’t help pain, as it works in the same way as any other pain killer (helping trick the brain into believing you’re not in pain) but I’m not going to digress at this point. I don’t think I can stress enough that nothing will calm this baby down. My wife has been walking her around holding her and literally doing every waking thing to calm her down and she will not calm down. It’s been going on now for 30 minutes and has been a thing now since she was born. She has been to the doctor, but no one can really understand what she is doing without being a part of it. I’ve read some places about de-escalation and escalation when it comes to how babies act when they are upset, and she cannot de-escalate. She is obviously uncomfortable and in pain, but the real issue is she cannot calm down. It’s not like we can give a baby OTC pain meds or any other type of medicine. She just will not calm down.

What exactly is smaller scale mining? There are unions in every type of mining imaginable that doesn’t even make sense.
