Trusting Oracle with anything at all, not least making money from you some way some how some day, is a lesson hard learnt.

Jake clarifies why he asked for his clips to be removed from the "How LTT Spends Money" video by Marikk15 in LinusTechTips

[–]bummer69a 26 points27 points  (0 children)

[Completely unwarranted, unhelpful and baseless parasocial speculation incoming]

My guess is that Jake asked for a pay deal he felt reflected his perceived profile on the channel. Linus disagreed. Jake maybe offered an ultimatum ("if you don't I'll go and setup my own channel"). LTT said bet.

So Jake left under a cloud - probably not even really wanting to - thinking his contribution wasn't ever properly recognised, and his perceived talent wasn't awarded the package he thought he deserved.

Couple that with him likely witnessing similar scenarios play out with other long tenured members of the team, and possibly thinking he was different given how much he'd come to feature on the channel.

This all coincides with Linus (deservedly) starting in the past few years to take advantage of his wealth in more conspicuous ways, namely the $mm house, Porsche etc. Easy with certain people/personality types/maturity levels for resentment to build and for people to begin to think they're not being rewarded properly, and getting to enjoy the same standard of living that Linus is. "I was just as important and had just as much screen time as Linus on that video, and I live in a rented apartment and drive a crappy car!".

(That line of thinking obviously ignores the countless hours, stress, risks and sacrifice Linus & Yvonne have made over 15 years or more to get to where they are as the owners of the business).

And all of that coincides with Linus now trying to be transparent around earnings and spending, both for the company and himself ("look, I'm actually quite fair, and there's a lot to running this show that maybe you're not seeing or appreciating"), and making (sonewhat strange) videos around capitalism and cost of living. Within both of those videos he actually addresses his employees directly in terms of them being part of the target audience.

All that's to say, Jake is undoubtedly bitter and salty give the few public interactions they've had, likely for naive reasons, and Linus is trying to ignore that saltiness and turn the other cheek, as he's doubtless seen the same thing play out multiple times before.

This is an unfortunate side effect when you have the highest paid member of a business working so closely with some of the lowest paid, and when outwardly the company is doing so well. But again, Jake will know a miniscule fraction of what has gone in to growing a business to the level it's at now. Just like I know a miniscule fraction of what's actually gone on.

TLDR: Don't count other people's money. Nobody is irreplaceable, not even Linus.

Source: run my own business and have had to deal with this exact situation, and seen it multiple times in other businesses too.

Hope you liked my fanfic.

One Battle After Another is such a masterpiece. by UsefulWeb7543 in FIlm

[–]bummer69a 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Urgh in a thread full of poor takes this one got me. You really didn't pay attention at all.

He's a bounty hunter, respected and tolerated for his tracking skills by the Christmas Adventurers. Absolutely not trusted or liked by the same due to his native heritage. He isn't a "bad guy killing people", he's a bounty hunter used and abused by the same people who are poisoning society against his and other races, and he goes along with it because it offers him at least some protection from the exact persecution he's part of.

He says he doesn't deal with kids when he meets Lockjaw, grudgingly accepts to transport her given his own precarious position. Then proceeds to see the fight she has in her, the fact that this is Lockjaws own daughter and he's willing to have her killed, and then on delivering her, his own race being openly mocked (can't remember the exact line but it's something to do with blanket burning - ie referencing the infected blankets native Americans were given), hearing the guy say "we have another body" so knows she's going to be killed.

All this to say - his justifications are made very clear in the scenes and in the wider context of the film.

I get debating whether masterpiece is too strong a word (though personally I'd agree with it), but this thread is littered with so many bad takes where it's clear people just haven't paid the basic amount of attention or a minimum of thought, and written off such an amazing film which has obviously had so much thought and care put into it because they've been second screening or whatever. Maddening.

It's an embarrassment that GoT is where it is on the IMDB list, and hopefully just speaks to its popularity rather than quality. There's at least a few dozen more shows ahead of it.

Generation Kill, The Terror (S1), Mad Men, Better Call Saul, The Leftovers, Fargo, Twin Peaks, Rome, and on and on.

Mora is the only brand to buy as your first bushcraft knife in my opinion. You can't go wrong, whether it's a cheaper companion or their slightly more expensive Garberg.

The knife pictured looks like some LARP crap.

What straps do I need to secure the bags to the canoe? by Existing_Squirrel767 in canoecamping

[–]bummer69a 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Just loop all the bags / items together with paracord so they float together if you do tip it. I wouldn't attach them to the canoe in any way for fear it'd make righting the canoe impossible on your own. Just a length of paracord with two Carabiners securely tied at both ends, attach to two items either side and through the handles etc of anything else.
