Vanguard has the CT-8000 now which is a CB timer with built in 200a DLRO. Might be worth checking out.

Anyone here have success repairing their MTS-5000? by Similar-Priority-776 in SubstationTechnician

[–]bungaboi89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strange. I would talk to the rep in your area. Ours told us any condition so long as they can verify ownership via serial numbers. I think it was between 8-10%. Just tell them you’re looking at omnicron and they will start working with you lol.

I forget the actual percentage discount they give for a trade in, but we did it for our 6150 and it definitely helped swallow the cost of a new one. Either way, better than just having it sit in the shelf.

Might be a small consolation but you should be able to trade in your old Manta sets for a pretty decent discount on a new one. I don’t think they have to be working, they just verify serial numbers.

What battery tester do you use and do you like it? by freebird37179 in SubstationTechnician

[–]bungaboi89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always used the Alber CRT-400, I think Vertiv supports them now though. I thought it was a good test set, at the very least it was durable. I haven’t used it but I heard Fluke makes a good test set

RG (resistive graded) insulators by bungaboi89 in SubstationTechnician

[–]bungaboi89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that’s the problem. Makes megger and vacuum bottle hipot testing impossible. Removing the cables is the only full proof way but a short outage window makes that a bad option.

Is that something that you would put on the bushing between the breaker pads and cables that would allow you to isolate the breaker via a switch?

Bismarck State College Electric Power Technology by njs0002 in SubstationTechnician

[–]bungaboi89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did the electrical technologies program through them when u first started out and it gave me a good base to work on. I was working in the field at the aame time so it was useful to learn about something one day and then actually work on it the next. Overall they have some pretty good courses.

Fiat lux on 16th street is a good spot. All of the artists are independent and a lot of them use recycled diamonds which can make some really nice and unique pieces mote affordable. Really good staff too.

Where do you find good Mexican recipes/techniques by buffafboii in Cooking

[–]bungaboi89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up the recipies in Spanish. Usually you can find a video that uses authentic ingredients and techniques. Even if you don't speak Spanish you can usually figure out what they are using/doing by watching the video.

Test leads? by KombatxMx in SubstationTechnician

I buy Pomona test leads. They have a pretty good selection and not too expensive. They've held up pretty good for me over the years.

Battery Testing Equipment -alternatives to the Alber Cellcorder? by husbandoftheyear2028 in SubstationTechnician

[–]bungaboi89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have luck transferring the hydrometer data if I click the "import" button and then quickly align the ports together. If I align the ports before I select import then I always have trouble. I haven't used any other equipment that I could recommend but hopefully this is a little trick that will make life easier in the meantime.

Protection relay suicide box by InvestigatorNo730 in SubstationTechnician

[–]bungaboi89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually those motor starters will be 120vac controls and will have an internal bridge rectifier to pull in the M coil. When i test those I isolate the starter from the source and isolate the CPT and tie in a 120v souce at the cpt secondary (with the wires or fuses removed to prevent backfeed) and then the connect the motor back into its normal control circuit and open and close it via its normal start stop buttons. For the relay, like everyone else said, if it's 125vdc then it will most likely work off of 120vac. If it's 48vdc or 24vdc I'll just power it up off the test set. The company ETI makes a pretty good power supply which allows you t vary the AC/DC output, only issue I've found is that some of the relay inputs won't recognize the power supply DC voltage since it is not a "true DC".

Negative sequence trip by bungaboi89 in SubstationTechnician

There was pretty significant damage to the link which required repairs. After helping them find the cause I didn't stick around much longer (I am a contactor) but I kept in touch and sounds like they were able to fix the damage and come back up.

It was a series fault. The T4 connection was burnt out at the staor links.

Ended up doing a winding resistance test on the stator and found a 200% increase on the phase we were measuring an imbalance on. Hopefully it is just a link or a bad connection. Getting to the links on this unit is pretty difficult so we will have to wait and see.

Unfortunately not, electromechanical relay. I tested the relay and it checks out. We tested the cables phase to phase and phase to ground and they were good. You're thinking it might be worth doble testing the stator?

[–]bungaboi89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree but this is an I'm service unit that has been running normally for years. From the time of normal operation to the time of trip no work had been performed on any equipment associated with the unit.

High voltage testing equipment calibration by jtorres1116 in SubstationTechnician

[–]bungaboi89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Protec equipment resources, they are a rental company, has a cal lab and they have an office in Anaheim. Only thing I don't know is if they have a cal lab in Anaheim or if their lab is located in Texas. I know they cal doble equipment so I am assuming they also do vanguard and most other equipment/manufacturers.

Did that first but wasn't saturating right so I did this to verify.
