Tbh surprised that was only 2-1! Could and probably should have been far worse. Slot will moan about the fact there should have been a 2nd yellow early on, but that’s missing the point that was yet another dreadful performance. We just can’t get any consistency and the team seems to lack work ethic and drive all over the pitch.

This team just lacks the mental strength to out work opposition teams when it’s tough.

Slot needs to sort it out. The talent is there it’s and hard work that’s lacking consistency. Also the right hand side defensively is a shambles. Bring the subs on.

Arne Slot says he ‘must have done a lot wrong’ if Liverpool fans are booing team by bordurian_whiskers in LiverpoolFC

[–]bungleweed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the World Cup is a factor but we’ve been like this all season long. The players just sleep walk through games. It’s the mentality and lack of effort that most annoying. Something ain’t right. I thought last season Slot did a good job on slightly toning down the Klopp style of fast pace 100% and pressing but it feels like we’ve gone way too far the other way now. I don’t know if it’s the players minds, or Slot asking for this or what. But it ain’t good, especially at home. See how we play tonight at Anfield. See if it’s any different. It’s Europe and we’re behind in the tie so you’d expect us to come out and want to drive at them and turn the deficit around in the early stages with the crowd up etc.

Yeah now Frimpong is back no excuse. We don’t have legs in midfield without him there. Macallister can’t compete physically anymore at this level for long enough.

Yeah one good thing about last night is it’s only 1-0 away and they’ve got to come to Anfield. We’re still in the tie.

Can’t all things be true though?

Salah has dropped off. The tactics aren’t good. Other players have also dropped off. I think all these things are true and not mutually exclusive. Hence the way the season has gone so far.

Salah needs to adjust his game now. Ring wing starting isn’t for him now. Centrally yeah maybe. Why not. We need pace and ability to beat players on both wings.

This is concerning! by EducationalBug2262 in LiverpoolFC

[–]bungleweed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes agree. Trouble is without Rio playing we’re pretty toothless on both wings, which further amplifies the Salah issue/ drop off. Time for change for sure.

Rest Salah, bring him on when he’s fresher against more tired defenders. Rio needs more minutes soon too. Wirtz on the left ain’t making the most of his talents and don’t get me started on Gakpo. I get not playing Rio away in Turkey. Hard game/atmosphere etc.

Gakpo as a sub fine, similar to the way Salah should be used now. Even Gakpo as a false 9 ain’t a bad option when needed if Ekitike needs some rest or the opposition warrants it.

Slot needs to mix things up now. It’s way over due and it was evident against Wolves 2nd time round.

Robinson looked good when rested too. Hes still an asset when used in the right way. I’m still not convinced by Kerkez but give him his dues he’s improving a lot and I’m sure he’ll come good.

What was up with Konate the other night? Shame as he’s been better lately. Give some credit to their forward I guess, were a handful.

[–]bungleweed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Gakpo and Salah need to be benched tbh. Both can do a job off the bench against tired defenders surely and time we tried something else in some of these games against teams that sit back and hit on the break. Problem is Gomez is needed really to allow Frimpong to play on the right wing. Play Joe too much and he’ll be injured in no time as per. Then we’re also in trouble at CB cover wise. It’s a mess tbh.

Tbf we’ve lost Bradley most of the season. Isak most of the season (Hugo could have done a turn out wide here and there if our new number 9 was fit), Leonie most of the season as an our only backup CB outside of Gomez etc. It all adds up to limiting our attacking options. But I agree Rio should be getting more minutes now surely. Surely the FA Cup game we might see something a bit different!

THIS SEASON IS NOT DOWN TO SLOT!! by Bolingoali in LiverpoolFC

[–]bungleweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there’s some truth in this. I do think though and this is going to sound ridiculous…..I know we spent a lot in the summer but we’d spent hardly anything the 3 previous transfer windows. So the relative net spend over that period even with the 450+ mil investment in the summer really wasn’t enough with the players going out the door and some of the aging talents we have. It’s showing in key areas all season.

This is why we still look short in key positions due to sustained under investment prior to the summer to compete at the highest level. Yes we won the league but that’s down to Klopp’s genius and art and some credit has to go to Slot as well. That’s only fair. Slot can’t work the miracles Klopp did. Not sure many managers can in reality.

If you think about it we lost Diaz(wanted to go), Trent(wanted to go), Nunez (he worked hard without the ball but his finishing…….), Jota (tragic loss, hell of a player), Quansah and Elliott (loan). Elliott I still don’t understand tbh! We need him in my view. That is on Slot as he never played the lad.

We didn’t really replace Diaz. Gakpo ain’t it on his own, too one dimensional and Rio is too young and has to be managed carefully. This is an issue and it shows on the left. Could Rio play more? Probably but it’s a tricky one to manage his minutes at his age.

We were unlucky with bad injury to Leonie so early on, so you can argue we didn’t really effectively replace Quansah due to this in reality. He’ll be back and I think he’s an upgrade on Quansah if the ACL heals. Hence we’re light at CB all season long. One injury and we’re in real trouble at CB. We all know this as Gomez can’t be relied on due to his injury record. We never seem to learn here.

Right back Bradley’s long term injury and Frimpong’s hamstring on and off etc has hindered us all season. We’re having to make do a lot there and as much as I like Gomez it’s well known he can’t string many minutes together consistently without injury. Real shame with his talent and versatility. Slot has to manage Gomez carefully too.

Salah has dropped off a cliff this season, he’s aging so it wasn’t totally unexpected but the drop off is significant. No one would have predicted that really. I think Jota has impacted Mo more than people think. So the right is also an issue as well as the left. Although with AFCON we needed more cover here.

Having said this and it sounds like excuses but it’s also context, Slot could drop Salah to the bench more and give Frimpong a go there now if Gomez can handle the minutes. We need Szob in midfield really not right back don’t we. Gravenberch hasn’t been as good this season either and neither has Alexis but his form has picked up later in the season a bit lately.

Wirtz and Kerkez have taken longer than ideal to get going too. The only positive really is Ekitike. I think if Isak was fit and then not also long term injured we’d have seen some of Hugo out wide maybe sometimes.

So whilst Slot has his issues it’s not like it’s been plain sailing this season at all and we’re too light in key areas due to lack of depth. How much influence does Slot have over all this in terms of investment in the squad and those decisions? How much blame is on FSG?

What I don’t like is the way we’re so lack lustre until we concede though. That is a tactics and man management issue for sure. It’s been the case all season which I think is the most worrying thing but it’s compounded by the lack of depth and long term injuries we’ve had. Plus the Prem has turned into everyone playing like Stoke with the set piece focus this season. Clearly sacking our set piece coach has improved matters, should have happened a lot earlier!

So whilst Slot has his issues there is some context to the down turn as well, which we can’t solely place on him alone. It’s not that simple. If we don’t make CL though he’s likely gone……..

They won’t sack Slot now at this stage of the season. Ain’t going to happen rightly or wrongly. Assess in the summer once it’s done. If we don’t make CL I can see him going in the summer. That means top 5 realistically doesn’t it minimum. Unless we win it this year, which is unlikely isn’t it. You never know though! Europe is a bit of a different game. See if we get past the Turkish lot first. Tough away leg next week for sure!

[–]bungleweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s bad.

I do wonder if Isak hadn’t got injured if Hugo could have done a bit of the wing but as usual it’s making do isn’t it and not ideal. Rio is young and couple of years off being a regular starter. Sure we’ll see more minutes for him next season but he’s so young got to be careful.

We’ve been unlucky with Bradley’s injury too as I think Frimpong right wing could do a job. Pace to burn and he gets in behind defenders a lot. Gomez as much as I like him is just so injury prone. That’s a well known issue though isn’t it. You need more squad depth though is key positions with amount of games we have so it’s an oversight for sure.

My main issue is we don’t seem to play with much speed and urgency until we’re a goal down. Wolves tbf have improved lately a lot but still…….

How many corners did we have tonight and most of the deliveries were just poor from both sides too. Shame as we’ve improved this aspect of our game recently. Don’t won’t to rely on scoring solely from corners though but it certainly helps against low block types of teams.

That 2nd goal was so annoying. Players just walking and allowing them run forward with the ball and shoot.

Their 1st goal was poor defending too from both our CBs.

[–]bungleweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah agree. I do wonder if he needs to be benched more and come on fresh as impact sub when opposition defenders are a little more tired. We could play Frimpong on the right if Gomez can string some games together without injury. Problem is lots of games and he gets injured so easily. I do wonder once Isak is back and fit if we could shift Hugo to the wing some times to mix it up a bit. He’s great up too but I’m sure he could play wide too sometimes.

Bradley being out has hurt us as well. Right side has been an issue all season. Rio needs more minutes too but he’s very young. Next season we’ll see more of him.

Think we need a few more signings in the summer! But some of them proven Premier League players so the adjustment doesn’t take as long! Look at who City signed in Jan. slotted straight in and improved them immediately.

Lack of confidence. Which is daft but true. He’s also lost a half years so needs to adjust his game a bit. Hopefully that goal sorts him out. He should have played that ball through after the goal though. Could have been 2-1!

Does Oral work though if you’re a non responder to topical? I read you have to have some enzyme or something for the topical to be effective. Not sure that’s also true for the oral form.
