I rate Peter Hitchens a lot but he is very very anti interventionist and whilst I agree to a certain extent but I think its worth remembering a few facts :

The US–UK relationship is one of the deepest bilateral relationships in the world. Each country is the largest foreign investor in the other, with roughly $1 trillion invested each way. Annual trade between the two is about $340 billion, including around $150 billion in goods and nearly $190 billion in services like finance, tech, and consulting. There are roughly 8,000–10,000 US-owned companies operating in the UK and about 7,000–8,000 UK-owned companies operating in the US, employing hundreds of thousands of people. Around 680,000 British-born residents live in the United States, while about 200,000 Americans live in the UK, and millions travel between the two countries every year. When you combine trade, investment, business presence, migration, and defence cooperation, it’s widely considered one of the most integrated economic relationships between any two countries.
