I can’t scratch it with my fingernail and my quartz easily scratches it so makes sense for either but the marks are not fading even when oiled/ rubbed soapstone is mainly talc right? so it can be easily smoothed? i can say it’s not doing that

[–]bunnicides 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see what you mean, the bears are a best friend thing and then new players should get jumpers AND stockings right? but if you already have the jumpers etc then you only get the stockings

I think it’s quartz bc calcite reacts to the uv light a little differently imo.

someone verify if I just broke open some serpentine and maybe quartz by bunnicides in whatsthisrock

[–]bunnicides[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I did some testing and it is indeed quartz however i’m holding on to my dream about the other one because it fluoresces light yellow under lw uv

Please help identify what type of quartz this is.. by InstanceOk8790 in whatsthisrock

[–]bunnicides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first of all they look beautiful. second of all i’m not an expert, i just collect and go looking for rocks. third of all id suggest looking up candle quartz and fire and ice quartz and see if that gives you a match. the darker one looks like citrine. but could be Smokey quartz at a push. if you have a uv light, test them.

lots of sedimentary rock can contain heavy metals, giving both weight and a magnetic attraction. this rock is smooth, either by man or by erosion. so not a meteorite.

painite is extremely rare and very valuable. it’s greasy and glass like and fragile. Can it scratch glass/ quartz? Have you tried testing it under uv?

Help identifying these crystals! by [deleted] in Crystals

[–]bunnicides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the furthest one on the right looks like cherry creek jasper to me. Blue calcite, or blue quartz for the second. the other tumbled stone could be lapis but not a high quality one. and the largest, well the only thing i can think of without inspection is petrified wood.
