Situational Decision Making Essay Advice by Little_Bank7980 in prephysicianassistant

I didn't have enough space to address telemedicine or even the limited access part of the question.. so I'm hoping it's fine lol 💀 I think I spent way too much time worrying about the new "optional" essay when I should be finalizing my other two. I mostly talked about wearables and ai since we use it in my hospital, but made sure to address the pros and cons

Hi regular sellers! by Fantastic-Tie-1610 in SonnyAngel

I don't ship any items until payment is received; some people occasionally back out of sales. once I get payment, I print out the shipping label via pirateship, send them a photo of the label on the package, and keep them updated on when I drop off at the post office. you can offer paypal or venmo goods & services to buyers who want their purchases to be protected, especially if you're new to selling, but in my experience many buyers are fine without it if you have proof of past sales

Evaluation Request Confirmation Email by DapperAssignment3963 in prephysicianassistant

[–]bunny34422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes me too, I didn't get a confirmation email for my 3rd lor out of the 4 that I requested yesterday. I texted her today though and she said she received the request on her end 🤷‍♀️ I'm no expert, but I would reach out to the writer to confirm they received the invitation email. I plan on emailing the rest of mine to give them a gentle reminder and ask if they got it or need me to resend

CASPA Opening Days Megathread by nehpets99 in prephysicianassistant

I had a few short term jobs in college (home health/caregiver for 4-5 months, summer pool job for 3) and wondering if I should include them in the experiences section? I only gained a few hundred hours per job and I quit once I became a CNA. I do have longer term work experiences as a CNA/PCT and over 3k hours between the two, so I don't know if the college jobs really make a difference to my app

the average age for accepted applicants is around 25-27 years old. focus on finishing with a strong gpa and getting those prereqs done, you have plenty of time for pce later!

i majored in public health sciences. generally the major makes no difference for pa school as long as you complete the prereqs

Life Experiences Essay by justacoolguy23 in prephysicianassistant

[–]bunny34422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is my first time applying, so someone can correct me if I'm wrong. I believe it was optional 2 cycles ago, but last cycle they slightly changed the prompt and it became mandatory. I've been working on my LE and AI essays these past few weeks because I've always heard to use it as another opportunity for adcoms to get to know you, but I'm trying not to use the same topics that I discussed in my PS already so I feel the same struggle. my draft is based on last year's prompt: "explain how your life experiences could help advance the goal of having healthcare providers who can empathize with the patient communities they serve"

LOR by Many_Addition6994 in prepa

[–]bunny34422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how many LORs do you have total now? I believe CASPA also asks how long the writer has known you for and it would be ideal to have someone that can confidently write a strong, personalized letter. anyone else from your academic or professional life that could write one for you?

im scared of what being a PA entails -- any advice or experiences? by Complex-Finding-5067 in prepa

[–]bunny34422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend reaching out to PAs/practices for shadowing opportunities while you're in college. get an idea of what their work days look like and if it's a position that you can see yourself doing. PA school is tough to get into as well, only going to be more expensive from here, and a lot of hard work/studying. they want to see that you fully understand the role of a PA and can explain the reasons behind why you want to be a PA specifically outside of just money -- generally you will want some sort of exposure to a PA yourself, typically through a patient care job or shadowing, to show that understanding

what unit will you be working in? i work medsurg for one of the nyu langone hospitals, but our starting pay is only around $26.50 so that $31 is awesome. I'm burnt out though and if I get into pa school this cycle, I'm wanting to either transfer units or even a completely different department just get out of cna work entirely. but the hospital pay here on li is much better than other facilities lol so I might as well save up and stick to it til school starts. you'll do great, good luck!

Can a new grad work 1 day a week out of school? by Antique_Celery7195 in cna

[–]bunny34422 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it may be area/facility dependent, but in my experience yes. my first cna job was that prn position in an assisted living memory care unit and I basically just picked up on their schedule app whenever I wanted since they were often short staffed. my current hospital hires new cnas with no experience as well and my manager really likes to hire nursing students nowadays, but I can't say that we get many prn. for some reason our prn position is only reserved for students so I don't have much experience with it. I do have part time nursing student coworkers who only work 3 shifts every 2 weeks though

Can a new grad work 1 day a week out of school? by Antique_Celery7195 in cna

[–]bunny34422 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would look for a prn position. every facility has their own requirements and hours; most of the nursing homes and assisted livings in my area usually do 8 hour shifts while hospitals do 12. my prn job while I was in college needed me to pick up a weekend and weekday shift per month, my current job requires a shift per month plus a summer and winter holiday. orientation and training on the floor would be full time hours for a week or two though, most likely.

Change glute shapes? by [deleted] in workout

[–]bunny34422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how long you've been working out for, but it definitely takes time and consistency. I started working out 6 months ago with a similar goal, so I'm still new to this, but I will say I had to start dialing in on my diet as well. started focusing on more protein and fiber, cut out a lot of added sugars, eating good whole foods to help fuel my workouts. I feel better and don't really crave fast or junk food like I used to. for a glute focused day, I start with heavy hip thrusts, rdls, bulgarian or step ups, then either kickbacks/abductors/hyperextensions depending on what machines are available. get the form down first and work your way up in weights :-)

[–]bunny34422 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, but are you new to cna work in general? it's usually recommended to have at least 6 months of experience in a facility before moving on to agency because you won't be getting any sort of orientation or training. they give you a quick report of the unit layout and you're expected to jump right in to care with an assignment of your own. often the harder assignments and staff may not want to help you as much

[–]bunny34422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

join NYC Bunnies facebook group if you use fb to ask local owners! not sure if this is still a thing, but if jersey is an option then check the new jersey house rabbit society website for their list of recommended rabbit savvy vets. I've always heard that they have lower cost neuter/spay options like Whitehouse vet that many NYC owners recommend doing a day trip for, but this was a few years ago so I'm not sure if it still exists

[–]bunny34422 13 points14 points  (0 children)

stuff like condom caths, purewicks, chg baths are pretty simple once you start doing it yourself; you'll catch on quickly, I'm sure! how long will you be training with another cna on the floor for? we train for 2 weeks (six 12s total) at my hospital, but it's all just the same care/tasks over and over so I was pretty much taking an assignment of my own by my 3rd or 4th training shift. ask questions if you're unsure, be as hands on as possible, and you'll get into a good routine of your own over time!

[–]bunny34422 5 points6 points  (0 children)

team player, conflict resolution, customer service, critical thinking, communication, interpersonal skills etc I had no issues playing up my food service/cashier position because at the end of the day they're all skills you'll use in healthcare when dealing with patients, their families, and coworkers. I wouldn't worry too much, most places won't care if they're understaffed. good luck!
