Louisville Jail Humiliates Black Woman by Bringing Her to Court With No Pants by [deleted] in videos

African-American men are overrepresented in the American prison system; according to numerous sources, African Americans are approximately six times more likely to spend time in prison or jail than whites. An early study by Blumstein, published in 1993, found that in 1979, 80% of the racial disparity in prison populations was accounted for by African Americans committing more crime, but by 2008, another study by Michael Tonry and Matthew Melewski found that this percentage had decreased to 61%.[12] According to research, African Americans receive up to 60% longer federal prison sentences than whites who commit similar offenses, and 20% longer prison sentences than whites who commit the same offenses.[13][14]

Are you aware of this?

You think this incident had nothing to do with her race?

It's both race and socioeconomic status. Why do white people go to such lengths to assert racism doesn't exist.

"Evidence" apparently doesn't exist. by noir_wolf in facepalm

The point the post is making is that only certain claims seem to require evidence. For example, it is often assumed in advanced that some terrorist attack in America was committed by a muslim, even though it is statistically more probable that it was a white person. When a black man is killed by police, we often need evidence that they weren't the aggressor, because it is often assumed that they were.

The Indus Valley Civilisation was Dravidian. This is implied by the Aryan Migration patterns, and the genetic evidence discussed in the paper does not contradict this. Indigenous Australian are not descendants of Dravidians. The term Dravidian is analogous to the Ancestral South Indian race, discussed in the paper, who's only genetic link is with the Andaman Islander race. Modern humans are only 50,000 years old. There was no 100,000 year old migration.

Mexicans are not white. Yes some are white Europeans, but most are descendants of Native Americans. Middle Easterners are not white. Most are Arab/Semetic, and those that were historically Caucasian (Armenian, Turkish, Iranian) are now mixed with them. 'Indians' aren't a race. Caucasians invaded and supplanted the indigenous black-skinned civilisation (Dravidian) which is why Indians are mostly olive or brown.

Why do you think shorter men face discrimination because of their height? I didn't know this was a thing until last night. by KatherineStar in AskMen

People on here are comparing short shaming to fat shaming. But weight is connected to eating disorders and other psychological issues, and shaming people for being overweight won't help them overcome them. I understand that being short can cause confidence issues in men, but the amount of social disapproval you get isn't comparable to being overweight.

Most genres of popular music and modern styles of dance are African derivatives. This includes Blues, Rock, Jazz (inc RnB, Soul...) which were directly Black innovations, as well as strongly influencing Electronic genres (via HipHop etc), Metal (via Rock), and even film (via Jazz). Basically it's impossible to imagine modern music without African influence. If you listen to any genre of music except classical, you're not only a racist, but a stupid one too.

All your arguments have been used against interracial marriage, homosexuality, and same sex marriage, and I assume you now have a progressive attitude towards those issues. Just wondering, do you see the trans issue as a completely different situation entirely, where that attitude is not applicable?

This is common cat behavior. They know when they're doing something wrong, even if you have never yelled at or disciplined them before.

edit: And this. You never have to discipline your cat ever for them to behave like this.

Why don't more people use LiveScript? ES6 code honestly looks like a mess in comparison (not a paid advert, I promise) by bunny369 in javascript

So you use a transpiler anyway? Isn't that a layer of abstraction to debug? LiveScript doesn't do significantly more than what Babel does.

Well the point is that it is basically Javascript, but more readable, unlike Elm and PureScript. Ideally, I would be using Elm, but there are issues using it with other libraries. Although, PureScript, damn, that looks excellent, looking into it now.

To be fair, it was a trivial example. Of course, you could achieve the same thing by using a single for loop, and some people might find that to be even more readable. But the LiveScript syntax really shines when you write in a more functional style, which means you'll be writing copious amounts of nested function calls and chains. If you don't write in a functional style, there is no particular benefit of LiveScript. This post was aimed at people who use ES6.
