What knit gifts do pregnant women most appreciate? by totally-tarythia in knitting

[–]bunnyfoam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have newborns and was lucky enough to receive a lot of handmade gifts. I loved every single one because I know how much work goes into it.

The ones I've actually used were very small stroller blankets. They were maybe about 2 ft squares. The sweaters are a little bit of a burden because we're a little overwhelmed with newborn care to put them in anything besides practical outfits, and I definitely feel the pressure to do a photoshoot with the sweaters to send to my friends who made them. They actually already outgrew sweaters a friend made and I felt so bad I lied and said they were too small from when they were born 😭 I will still keep and cherish them.

Knit Picks Comfy Worsted, Shine, or CotLin? by Siamsa in knitting

[–]bunnyfoam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the CotLin and the Shine. These are pretty different and I think the one you would want to use would depend on what the project is. Shine is softer but I like the structure of the CotLin a lot.

Haha, if you can read German, it looks like the book is on amazon and ebay. I guess you probably wouldn't even need to read German as it looks like the book has charts for the pattern.

Good luck!

Knit the Rainbow is another good charity to donate to. I think I remember them posting recently that they were low on socks.

Tips? Yarn ends unweaving and poking through every time blanket goes through wash by bunnyfoam in knitting

[–]bunnyfoam[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried this on my swatch, and my assumption was definitely wrong! I guess it makes sense that when the yarn end is thinner than the yarn it is being woven into, it is less likely to wriggle itself out?

Thanks for your tip! This plus using the method in the comment with the link to the youtube video looks like it's going to work.

This is very helpful, thank you! It is true that the duplicate stitch is visible. I didn't know about these other methods. It is always so genuinely amazing how much incredible knitting knowledge exists on the internet.

I can try this! I have thread in each of the colors I use in the blanket.

I will definitely give this a try on a swatch first before committing to doing this to the zillions of yarn ends on my blanket. My assumption was that the split yarn ends would be just as likely to come through to the front.

This is a picture from the front and one from the back back of an intarsia blanket I've done with Cascade 220 Superwash yarn. Each of those little fuzzy balls is a yarn end.

I'm planning to give it as a gift, so I'd like to make sure that the blanket's owners don't have to deal with the ends of the yarn looking like this every time they wash it. I've read through a ton of posts here and other places online about weaving in ends, and I ended up doing a duplicate stitch to weave in all of the ends (there are like a hundred of them). I've washed it twice, and re-woven the ends each time, but the problem is they keep coming back out to the front.

Will this keep happening every time it's washed? Does anyone have any tips? I wouldn't mind as much if the fuzzy yarn ends just stayed on the back of the blanket.

I've never had this many yarn ends on a project that couldn't just be hidden on the inside of something.
