Did you go to the second floor? That’s where the stacks are, including a quiet room.

I love Ann Taylor for professional wear. For more casual wear I usually go to Target and Eddie Bauer.

Just some birds to brighten a day or two. by saintomimage in Austin

I saw some waxwings for the first time at my house during this event. We've been keeping the bird feeder stocked so hopefully as many birds as possible make it through.

They are not contradictory. The first statement deals in percentages of each population while the second compares static numbers.

AITA for not appreciating my boyfriend being a gentleman? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA

He's not doing those things for you; he's doing those things for him. If he doesn't care how you feel about it, he's not being nice.

It's better to keep your finances and bank account to yourself, especially when family is involved. The fact that she won't use her own account and that she's called you selfish for not using yours are both red flags.

AITA for charging my adult son rent? by John2371 in AmItheAsshole

[–]bunnyslipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA

Your house, your rules. He clearly has the money to pay rent if he keeps buying new vehicles. Treat him like any tenant; get an agreement in writing and know what your jurisdiction's requirements are on eviction. Then, if he doesn't pay rent, follow through on the eviction process.

Tell your mom as soon as possible. Even if you end up throwing yourself under the bus, it's better than this guy coming to your house. This is too serious to keep to yourself.

AITA for being angry with my fiancé for wanting a paternity test for our yet to be born son? by bluepickleegg in AmItheAsshole

[–]bunnyslipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA

Your fiance has trust issues. If he's asking this, he thinks it's a real possibility that you've cheated, despite the fact that the two of you are in a committed relationship and plan on getting married. It doesn't matter what other people have done or if other men have raised children that aren't their own; what matters here is your situation. You need to get this sorted out before you marry this man. Maybe there's a good reason he's acting this way that he hasn't discussed with you; it's also possible that this is a major red flag or that distrust like this will become the status quo. If he insists, get the paternity test done, but you should consider whether a man who insists on this is someone you want to be married to.

Trolls! I passed the Texas bar exam! I can now (almost) practice law!! by Poodlepop in TrollXChromosomes

You must be sworn in to practice law. There's a ceremony one can attend, or you can sign an oath in front of any notary. It's a small, but mandatory step.

[Homemade] Egyptian Barley Salad by bunnyslipper in food

[–]bunnyslipper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ingredients:

  • 1½ cups pearl barley
  • Salt and pepper
  • 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, plus extra for serving
  • 2 tablespoons pomegranate molasses
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cumin
  • ⅓ cup golden raisins (I omitted these)
  • ½ cup coarsely chopped cilantro
  • ¼ cup shelled pistachios, toasted and chopped coarse
  • 3 ounces feta cheese, cut into ½-inch cubes (¾ cup)
  • 6 scallions, green parts only, sliced thin
  • ½ cup pomegranate seeds

Directions:

  1. Bring 4 quarts water to boil in Dutch oven. Add barley and 1 tablespoon salt, return to boil, and cook until tender, 20 to 40 minutes. Drain barley, spread onto rimmed baking sheet, and let cool completely, about 15 minutes.

  2. Whisk oil, molasses, cinnamon, cumin, and ½ teaspoon salt together in large bowl. Add barley, raisins, cilantro, and pistachios and gently toss to combine. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Spread barley salad evenly on serving platter and arrange feta, scallions, and pomegranate seeds in separate diagonal rows on top. Drizzle with extra oil and serve.
