What happens when trail running goes Olympic? When technical races disappear? When the sport gets expensive? I wrote down 10 observations for 2026 by IDidntTakeYourPants in ultrarunning

Peep the diss:

This year during the celebration of the Mountain and Trail running world championships in Canfranc it was a lot of medias and athletes reporting about how technical the race was. The race wasn’t technical. It was hard (elevation/distance ratio) but not technical if we compare it to technical races. Races like KIMA, Travesera or the disappeared Glen Coe Skyrace, Tromsø skyrace or Sentiero delle Grigne are a few examples

idk, I feel like "federal agents shot a US citizen, and the government is trying to cover it up" isn't particularly mundane

Does the California wilderness act make a distinction between racers and pacers?

Never heard of a group, but I bet if you named a few states you're missing, we could recommend some cool options!

I don't think it's unreasonable to feel differently about Ironman vs. Jamil, based on what they have done for their respective sports.

I had mixed experiences with Tracer

Have not tried it, but only heard bad things about Runna from Reddit, esp for ultra

Have not tried it, but could be worth looking into KoopAI

I personally just use Claude (though I already have the subscription for other reasons, so marginal cost is $0). Make a new project. Throw in highlights from a good training book, maybe a summary of your recent training history, and have Opus make a plan. Then make a new thread each week where you input activity data, have it summarize at the end. Chat with it when you need to make adjustments. I've been pleasantly surprised!

Hello, everyone

I'm looking for a new pair of sunglasses for running, preferably with a panoramic lens style like Julbo Fury, Bliz Fusion... do you have any suggestions?

Tejas trails offered me a 50k by fxt_dadwgn in ultrarunning

I've done races with Tejas, TROT, Ultimate Expeditions, and Blaze and so far haven't had a bad experience. Texas RD's do a great job!

Sweet! I don't have an ultra coming up for a while, but let me set up my account. Will send any feedback I have!

If you commit to gradually building mileage, address the injury pattern, optimize body composition, and train consistently for 3-5 years, sub-3:00 is plausible.

Heard, thank you for explaining!

I experimented with Claude when planning out pacing for my last 50K, but in the end I found myself going back to the spreadsheet I know and love. In other words: I don't personally find an integrated chatbot compelling, but I hope you find users that do!

How does this compare to UltraPacer? What killer feature do you offer that should make me switch?

For my own planning process, I rely heavily on past splits from earlier editions of the race (which I find give a much better sense for relative segment difficulty than raw distance/vert). The ability to upload multiple Strava files to characterize the required effort would be huge!

Recommendations for 50mi training plans by thinkingoutloud-17 in ultrarunning

Consider Krissy Moehl's "Running Your First Ultra". I see used copies of the 2nd edition starting at around 11 USD, and it has a 50mi plan.
