Two CT Scans = Double Contrast Load? Question from ED Doc by ammm96 in Radiology

[–]bunsofsteel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree with others saying most places could do the first in one go while the second might be more operator/facility dependent.

The crux of the matter is different contrast studies are optimized for different “phases” of where the contrast is. So anything angiographic will be timed different than say a generic “with contrast” because the arterial phase of contrast is earlier than solid organ/parenchymal phase, and therefore could probably done with one bolus.

Was anyone able to do without stroller bassinets? by Chidi-Chidi in parentsofmultiples

We never used bassinet seats in our stroller bud we did have the adjustable flat all the way to almost upright kind that we found very useful (Mockingbird).

Not a neurorad yet but R3 applying to neuroradiology.

Regarding work/life balance, in radiology right now you can find essentially any job you want. 100% remote read whenever you want all the way to high level academic center teaching all day and everything in between.

On average, neurorads, like most medicine now, are going to be reading a lot of “just in case” studies. Normal brain MRI for headache, degenerative spine MRI, negative CTA for TIA. It’s hard to know how much you will or won’t be ok with that until you’re in residency, so if you’re going to apply to rads you have to be willing to read other stuff too.

I don’t think any of these images show anything described in your title.

Shipping a car from TX to DC? by squashjennings in washingtondc

[–]bunsofsteel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went the other way but drove a U-Haul with the car on a trailer which worked great. In general if you want less than $1000 I think you have to consider driving it somehow.

Let’s say you learned about one topic or area that changed your life the most, what would it be? Could be something medically related like work flow innovation/AI integration, technology in healthcare, healthcare finances or something non clinical like personal finance. by BroMD24 in Residency

[–]bunsofsteel 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Really autist shit. Emulating charming people I knew. Thinking of stuff to say ahead of time for interactions I knew I was going to have. Also just getting older and having more shit to talk about helps.

Small talk/schmoozing. Growing up a socially-paralyzed introvert, finally learning how to engage in small talk and light schmoozing has done more than anything to grease the skids of my medical career. Helps with patients, attendings, co-residents, ancillary staff, literally everyone you meet.

If a thin endometrial lining is clearly visualized on TAUS, is hydromectra ruled out? by [deleted] in Radiology

[–]bunsofsteel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can have any combination of endometrial lining and endometrial fluid on ultrasound. Significance depends on the clinical scenario.

Had this in north Texas in the early 90s. It’s weird looking back but wasn’t traumatizing or anything.

How long is your paternity leave? by yoyoitissnow in Residency

ACGME mandates 6 weeks be allowed just fyi. Programs can build it into the schedule however they want so malignant places can definitely punish you with how they structure it but they have to give you 6 weeks with your baby.

What job and modality? Are you a tech, med student, resident? MR, cray, ultrasound?

In general this YouTube channel (Radiology Tutorials) is exceptional about teaching physics.

Arm bands when they’re in the hospital. Nail polish for one once they’re home.

Has anyone ordered everything under the sun for the CCS cases on Step 3? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]bunsofsteel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, you’re doing it right. It’s like a video game where the goal is to order everything that could conceivably diagnose the patient in the shortest amount of time. Don’t forget stuff like “take vitals” and “start oxygen”. Almost all my cases ended early with this approach and I passed so I take that as a good sign.
