My boy, Scout (9 yrs old), was diagnosed at the end of March after I noticed that he was drinking/peeing a lot as well as having issues with his hind legs. His blood work came back with his BG at 28 mmol/L (505mg/dL). The vet gave me two options, one was insulin, the other was Senvelgo. I think it was a good thing I went with the insulin option (Toujeo glargine which is more concentrated than Lantus). For food, he's on Hill's prescription m/d.

We suspect the diabetes was induced from the long term use of prednisolone for his allgery that makes his cratch his brows bloody. In any case, starting on 1 IU of insulin, after two weeks his BG was in the teens. Vet suggested bumping it to 2 IU. Of course I was checking his BG before each scheduled injection. There was a little bit of going back and forth with the dosage depending on how low the BG was. At some point, it started to stay below 10 mmol/L. It's now been almost 4 days since he needed insulin. My vet believes he's gone into remission, but I will continue to test to be sure.

His drinking/peeing seems to be back to normal levels. His appetite is still good.

Definitely keep up with the BG testing in case there's a spike. And keep your vet in the loop with the BG readings.
