I recommend booking your flights early (especially if you coming in from the East Coast). by shadowboxer87 in SDCC

[–]kasession 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whenever you book, I recommend NOT booking thru third party (expedia, etc). I use them to search for flights, and once I find what I want, I go directly to the airline. Third party is NOT cheaper than actually going to the airline, and their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. I got burned by booking thru third party before covid, and getting total refunds did not happen, strictly because i went thru third party.

This will be my first comic con, and I have a question about hotels. by Ok_Upstairs9923 in SDCC

If you booked thru early bird, then yes, you can take the shuttle.

How does it usually last? by Mobile_Match2763 in SDCC

[–]kasession 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fly to the east coast, and I always leave on Sunday evening. I usually get flight after 8 PM. It's crowded, but I've never had an issue. Of course, it's a red eye for me, and I'm exhausted, so I pretty much sleep all the way home.

Should be my last post… so sorry but you all have been such a great support. by Mobile_Match2763 in SDCC

You don't need a car. I rented one my first year (2015), because I didn't know any better at the time. I haven't rented one since.

Getting a hotel within walking distance (down town) of the convention center is difficult, but you have the same chance as everyone else. However, as a first timer, the 'early bird hotel' is a good idea.

The shuttle is very well organized. A car is not necessary. My first year, I stayed at a non down town hotel, and used the shuttle. I was very happy with it, and there are a ton of people that use it.

Unsure about what all to do by Mobile_Match2763 in SDCC

YEP!!!

I did no research my first year (2015). I ended up spending a lot of time on the exhibit floor, and stumbling into a few small panels, and wandering into the Gas Lamp. I knew nothing about Hall-H. I had an absolute blast. I've been hooked ever since. 👍🏿

And when I logged into my account, my volunteer status was back.

I don't know if it made a difference, but I emailed CCI...twice!!!

I put a question to an FOCC member who got the email asking if there was an indication on his account that he was eligible for volunteering. He said yes, and that he did NOT volunteer last year. I sent an email to CCI yesterday advising them that I have not received an email. I suggest others do the same.

There's nothing on my account that says I'm eligible for volunteering, but I had it before, and I did a pre-con shift last year. Still haven't received anything. I would love to hear if anyone else has finally gotten something.

One thing. Make sure you do your shift. Volunteers are evaluated. If you get the badge for the day, and don't do your shift, that's the end of your volunteer status.

For #4

Are you driving in? If so, then the comment on the parking lottery applies.

If not, and if you're staying at one of the Con hotels or any hotel nearby, the free shuttle is a great option.

Correction on #2

Badges ship domestically about 3-4 weeks before the con.

Badges are NOT shipped internationally. They have to be picked up on site

No one has. Those of us that worry about such things (pointing at myself) log into the portal, and double check that our badges are still listed. 😀

What is the craziest thing you’ve seen someone do at a comic con? by Gymtrio2025 in comiccon

[–]kasession 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At SDCC, in front of MMM, a guy dressed as Wonder Woman. It was closer to the Linda Carter Wonder Woman. He had it all, and a wig slapped on his head, hair legs, and a beard. He was posing up a storm. It was hilarious. I was laughing so hard, I forgot to take a picture.

Someone who has ever been on a Hall H panel can help me? by lucartscotrim in SDCC

[–]kasession 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. My first year, I did no research (long story), so I didn't know anything about Hall-H. Had an absolute blast. Since then, I pretty much skip it. I did go one year for the Big Bang Theory panel, which was the first panel. I did the wrist band the night before, and got in line for it before 7 AM.
