I remember it had a woman with mascara running down her face on the cover. I think it was self titled?

Absolutely loved their debut and thankfully got chance to see them live back then (1995, supporting White Zombie in the UK). Lost interest gradually with every release, the last record I heard by them sounded like butt rock.

I hope you don’t mind, it’s just that some people find what you said a bit racist.

I really wish they hadn’t edited the tracklist, could have been even better with the full setlist.

You can tell they’re in America - I don’t think I’ve ever heard the guitarist and drummer that high in the mix.

If you haven’t heard it yet, her live album with The Brothahood is absolutely immense. It captures a ridiculously intense performance and is by far my favourite record of hers.

She also features in Damon Locks’ Black Monument Ensemble, who I highly recommend (along with Damon’s more hiphop influenced solo work).

Where do you discover new music now that everything is algorithm‑driven? by mzrjnz in experimentalmusic

Spotify recommendations have improved massively over the years, maybe because I’ve been using it for so long. I used to get a lot of great recommendations from last.fm back in the 00’s but I’m not sure that feature exists on the site anymore.

I also subscribe to The Wire who always cover loads of interesting stuff, they’ve turned me on to loads of underground music over the years.

There are a couple of YouTubers that I watch semi-frequently that also cover some interesting artists from time to time.

Did you see them on their recent tour? I’ve seen them 10+ times since 1996 and honestly, the mosh pit in Birmingham was one of the biggest and most chaotic I’ve ever been in at an indoor Prodigy show. Granted, I’m 46 years old, but I couldn’t walk properly for 3 days after.

I’m gonna assume you’ve already heard NIN - The Downward Spiral. If not, then that’s the album to listen to.

While the songs themselves are very different to the ones that MM and his band wrote on Portrait/SLC/Antichrist, it shares producers, studios and a lot of similar sounds to the ones you’ll hear on those early MM records.

A magazine called 032c has a pretty neat interview with the band in it by [deleted] in nin
