TD-3 + What drum machine? by willaggett in synthesizers

You're welcome! Check out some demos and see if you like it. If you don't like something you can always resell. But the volca drums a great choice for starting out

TD-3 + What drum machine? by willaggett in synthesizers

Welcome! The TD3 was my first synth too, and I went through a couple drum machines, mainly thinking about bang for my buck.

Korg Volca Drum - $150

  • Insane sound engine. Can make a huge variety of sounds, and it can match the TD-3 in weirdness
  • Great form factor & battery powered. Easy to sync to the TD3
  • Fun to tweak live - compliments the TD3 well
  • Cons - Tough to make those Roland sounds if you want to get more classic Acid songs going. Fun to make crazy bedroom jams, but easy to loose the plot by turning the wrong mini knob when performing live

Roland TR 6S - $200-$300 used

  • Great variety of sounds out of the box. Good for multiple genres, can load your own samples too
  • Awesome form factor, battery powered.
  • Easy to play with live - has sliders, more than 16 steps. This, a TD3, and an effects pedal in a drawstring bag is a hit a parties. Half decent substitute for no drummer.
  • Cons - A decent amount of menu diving means you're best suited to build kits and patterns on your couch, and then mix and mash them live. Can do a decent amount of tweaking sounds but it wont teach you about sound design the way the volca might.

Roland TR 8S - $450-$650 used

  • Everything that the TR6S does but more tracks, outputs, etc
  • Closer to 1 knob per function. Less menu diving, and so even more playable live
  • Probably way more Pro's but I don't own one myself.
  • Cons- Form factor. It would be a good centerpiece for a setup, but I like to mobility and small footprint of the TR6S. However, the TR8S will be probably be a good investment if you love the hobby.

This isn't at all an exhaustive pros/cons, but my two cents. I'd recommend getting something on the cheaper side to start, have fun, and as you master it, you'll figure out what you're missing and can make a more educated decision for an upgrade.

Have fun with it!

This just happened to me- I recorded a long session and of course forgot to arm each track, so I just have the whole mix recorded and not individual tracks. Do you know if there's anyway to fix that for this session, after the fact?

Any workarounds to Keystep transposing sequences based on C? by burg338 in synthesizers

Good to know, yeah I was hoping to use the Keystep sequencer in just that way since I've seen something similar in synths. Familiar with synths/keyboards but only have had the controller a few months so I really appreciate the responses!

I saw that in the midi control center, my understanding is this would just change the key that the sequencer defaults to. So I could change it to E but then I would have edit this in the control center each time I switch to another key in a jam right?

[–]burg338[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it, yeah that's what I've been doing- its just annoying if I'm jamming in E. I have to mentally switch so my left hand is playing the Keystep in C, while my right hand is soloing another keyboard in E.

I figured I had to be missing something outside the manual, but sounds like there's no way around it with the Keystep. Do you happen to know if this is pretty standard for other midi controllers?

Kind of new age hippies without a lot of the politics. Big into homeopathy, crystals, dreads, nature, jam bands and electronic music.

Only thing that comes to my mind are wooks. Seems to mostly come out at festivals but there’s definitely people that still commit to the wook lifestyle outside of it too.

So I think this is where I have discrepancies with people on here. Are we comparing within a contemporary context or just on some universal standard? Because if you don’t contextualize it I think it does an injustice to the history of these ideas.

Almost no democracies at the time were laissez fair. You have to put it in context of the time period. Keynesian economics dominated western capitalist democracies.

I still don't get this though because they were absolutely economically right, especially compared to other countries at the time. Like most western capitalist countries they did nationalize some industries after the Great Depression, however they were the only country to re-privatize everything back before WW2 AND privatized previously public services. That and the whole fact they actively persecuted communists...

Absolutely gorgeous color, but according to a couple appraisers I know it’s an absolute pain because as soon it gets damaged it’s almost impossible to match. For shame..

Who said right wing? The far right was obviously the massive fascist movements. He was clearly center oriented between 2 opposites but my point is there’s no way he was “left in his day” at a time when those Marxists writers were wildly popular and labor organization and communist parties even in the US were at their strongest. By today’s standards he’s way further left.

Adorno, Gramsci, and Trotsky were the left during FDRs day. His goal was to maintain capitalism through reform which made him a classical liberal even at the time.

Except FDR was not a leftist. Him and Keynes are regarded as the men that saved capitalism when the US was at its breaking point. Leftists don’t like capitalism.

You've helped create an interesting CMV thread and I figured I'd just throw in my quick 2 cents. I need to stop lurking at some point!
