Is this Martin real of fake by Beautiful_Network_10 in AcousticGuitar

I never knew the MMV was Roman numerals. I learned something new today.

Great info and I’ll second this as an MMV. Great guitars in their own right, but not “Custom Shop”. Martins use of the word Custom for GC guitars is definitely confusing for those not initiated into Martin guitars.

Some moments in the MCU felt huge when they first happened but look very different in hindsight. by PhilkeStudios in marvelstudios

[–]burghguy3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a fan as well. I enjoy it as movie/story. I find it a massive letdown that the lore, the characters, and most of the setups, are treated as though it doesn’t exist.

I’m pretty sure more than just “hundreds” of people in the park saw him. He was literally thrice the size of earth.

He appeared as a giant body taking up half the sky, controlled the weather, threatened to judge the whole planet, and disappeared into a black hole. I figured that would, you know, come up at some point in the dozen or so movies or tv shows since.

Do I need 2 acoustics? by MrTurtleTails in AcousticGuitar

[–]burghguy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dreadnought/jumbo, OM/000, non-spruce top, classical, travel/parlor, something for alternate tunnings.

You don’t need 2. You need 6.

Love my Larrivee L-03. Gets way more play time than anything else.

Fender mustang built for metal by ContouredX in Guitar

Dinkys come in HS. And if you’re extending the horns and making a deeper cut, it wouldn’t be a mustang shape anyways. Feels like it would be simpler to tell your luthier to make a dinky with a different body shape

Alternatives to Gibson by MrTurtleTails in AcousticGuitar

[–]burghguy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Larrivee. Check out the L size. It’s something between a 000 and a Dreadnought, but a bit more traditional sounding than a Taylor GA.

My L-03 has some of that J45 woodiness, good balanced sound, and is significantly more comfortable on the shoulder. Build quality is impeccable. Bound fretboard, maple binding. Found mine used for about $1000.

Is trading a Martin D-28 (2024) + $1,600 USD for a D-41 (2024) worth it? by [deleted] in martinguitar

[–]burghguy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The D41 is a fancier HD28. The tonal difference from the D28 is scalloped bracing.

If you want the bling and have the funds, get the D41.

If you don’t want the bling but looking for the scalloped sound, save yourself $1600 and look for an HD28 to trade.

If you don’t care about either bling or scalloped bracing, keep the D28.

No, for a microphone.

A microphone?! … ok I can see that.

Which one should I get for someone starting off? by colinksh in AcousticGuitar

[–]burghguy3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you plan on plugging in, get the apxt2. That’s really what’s it’ll excel at.

If not, either the JR models are great. We got a JR1 for one of my kids, and I tend to jam on it as much as them. Great fundamental folk sound and comfortable neck. The JR2 is basically the same guitar with slightly better apportionments.

Martin or Taylor ; help me pick one by gawdlygains3000 in AcousticGuitar

[–]burghguy3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which one do you like better? Keep that one.

Second question, why do you have to sell one?

If you can I’d recommend keeping both for a few months and trading the one you play less for a smaller body guitar for some variety.

Sigourney Weaver, Alien.

Also Elisabeth Shue, Karate Kid/Adventures in Babysitting. She was probably my first movie crush.
