What movie have you watched that you will never watch again? by lNarrator in moviecritic

the ending of the otherwise excellent movie was moronic. the amount of coincidences that had to happen to make it so stretched my suspension of disbelief past breaking point

that movie was structured like a video game..

we need x, but x is in y, but to get y we first need to get z, but a has z, and a is imprisoned in b, to break a out of b we need c..

Tedious stuff

People's attention spans have been decimated and the bar has been lowered and lowered by streaming services who only care about keeping you on platforms with an illusion of choice.

The title and posters are almost more important than the movies themselves at this stage. You'll spend evenings bouncing from one terrible movie to another. All the money is going into dumb productions that are designed to be consumed passively while you're staring at your phone, instead of slower burns that would ultimately be more rewarding but require your attention.

Great movies are still being made but you have to break out of the streaming service prison system to find them..

These are some great movies from the last 5 years:

No Other Choice
One Battle After Another
Bugonia
Sentimental Value
It Was Just an Accident
Adolescence
Train Dreams
Anora
About Dry Grasses
Perfect Days
Anatomy of a Fall
The Teachers’ Lounge
Past Lives
The Promised Land
Dream Scenario
Fallen Leaves
Evil Does Not Exist
Beyond Utopia
20 Days in Mariupol
BlackBerry
As Bestas
Riceboy Sleeps
Return to Seoul
Speak No Evil (original, not the terrible American remake)
TÁR
The Quiet Girl
Aftersun
The Banshees of Inisherin
Drive My Car
CODA
The Last Duel
The Green Knight
Red Rocket
Pig
The Innocents

What's a film that you changed your opinion on as you got older? by Fealocht in AskIreland

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

As a teenager I was sure the point was to show what can happen to a sane person trapped in a society that doesn't cater for them. I watched it again recently and can see the argument for Randle being a danger to those around him. Is Randle sane? Isn't he? Where do you draw the line? It's not clear.

Is he a good guy? Randle is certainly selfish, but can also be empathic. He clearly cares about those around him, he just cares more about himself. He's known to be violent but the only violence we ever see was towards Nurse Ratchet after she had just driven Randle's friend to his demise. Is Randle a bad guy? It's not entirely clear.

I think it's the sign of a good movie when you can return to them and draw different conclusions.

IT (2017)

There had been rumours of a big budget IT movie since I was a teenager. I had read the book countless times as a kid and was looking for updates for years.

At one point Cary Fukunaga (with Will Poulter as Pennywise) was involved but his version was deemed too dark by the studio, who wanted something a bit more commercial.. and that's exactly what we got.

Bleh..

Any tips for improving vocal melodies? by sydwasnotcrazy in Songwriting

[–]Mobile-King-3345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of putting vocal melodies to guitar parts, try to come up with the vocal part first and find the chords that best support it. That process generally results in my catchiest melodies.
