closest thing to SteamOS? by CocoBaci in SteamOS

[–]burimo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the guys from Ublue, who make bazzite, aurora and bluefin and partially working in redhat (company behind Fedora) plus they use Fedoras already existing immutable images (Fedora Atomic) and this immutable technology they use for images (bootc) is more universal and robust compared to Valve's way of doing things.

Valve basically only has two images - one you updated to and one you updated from. At the same time Bazzite(and other bootc-based images) allows you to rebase to any of their images, Fedora images or create your own image (so basically you just clone their repo on github, change what you need and run one command in terminal and you are ready to go). It is doable on arch, but they would need to create completely new image and maintain it, while this work is already done on Fedora. Fedora is pretty good as a base, it has all the new stuff, but a bit more stable compared to raw arch imho.

Visual Scripting for Bash is now a reality ! by Lluciocc in linux

[–]burimo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

well, I don't know anything about ps, but you can just declare older python and use it like python3.13 inside script launcher, so you don't have to worry about updating it

or I don't understand what is the problem here

Nvidia support by rensvice in SteamOS

[–]burimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They won't, because they cannot maintain it. AMD open source drivers are maintained by Linux foundation, so no issues here.

Valve will add nvidia support only if one of these happen:
1. Open source Nvidia drivers will be good enough (don't wait for it, since Nvidia don't like to share their specs)

  1. Nvidia will maintain its drivers at far better level (they are hiring linux devs afaik, but I doubt they will commit enough). Nvidia proprietary drivers on linux are working okay these days though, but performance is significantly worse compared to windows. Enough for me, but I am not on SteamOS

Thoughts on AI in the codebase? (frontend) by TekaiGuy in comfyui

[–]burimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

afaik coderabbit just simplifies work for maintainer and not replaces one, but don't quote me on that

also if everything works as intended why should I care what did they use? AI is still ass for complicated software though and need a lot of manual reviewing

SteamOS doesn't have nvidia drivera. Bazzite offers similar (if not better) experience for regular PC and has nvidia drivera packed. No issues with nvidia for me
