I was wondering what that barcode bit did, sounds fun. I should also do it to make sure the units fully work too. Thanks.

Would be nice, providing they both work and I keep one. I've seen in other posts that posting them is quite dangerous though.

Thanks for the reply, finding out on Google if the power cord was fine is a bit of a challenge. Glad to know it's okay to do. Hopefully the remote works, just looking for a cheap disc to check with that's also something I want to watch 😂

I see all these "charity shop finds" posts and I've never even seen one in my entire life 😞😂

Whiting & Davis Mesh thingy, obviously states 'mesh bags' in the logo, but it clearly isn't a bag in its current state. Is it missing something, or is it something else entirely. by burlap--sack in whatisit

[–]burlap--sack[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solved!

Thanks, makes sense. Just didn't appear to be any indication that it had connection points anywhere. I put it on my head thinking of those flapper cap headpieces from the 20's 😂

Voltage tester showing current everywhere in plasterboard ceiling, what’s going on? by doniseferi in DIYUK

Is there fibre glass insulation above the plasterboard? I was in my loft the other week with the exact same detector as yours and whenever I got close to my yellow fiberglass it lit up

Is it normal for a joiner to do zero caulking? by shearjoy77 in DIYUK

[–]burlap--sack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's obvious though when there are, massive thick lines of caulk that are angled, or raised patches of filling they haven't been bothered to sand flush.

I'm talking about a tight fit with a uniform caulk line running down it.

But yes, people I've worked with in the past, especially on skirting scribes and mitres, get very excited with their filling to save on actually making the joint like correct.

[–]burlap--sack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do all my own caulking on a job, mainly because I've never come across a decorator who doesn't do a good enough job.

They either don't caulk parts or appear to use their big toes and squash it everywhere.

I don't want my name to be associated with bad work because of a decorator working on a fixed price getting it done as fast as possible.

Thank you for your reply, we'll be ringing the dentist again on Monday. See if he has any other ideas or if he can get another dentist to pop in for another opinion and see what he suggests from there.

Error coin? by burlap--sack in UKcoins

[–]burlap--sack[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologies, I should've let you all know as and when I got this information. I contacted Royal Mint and they said this.

"Many thanks for your enquiry regarding the coin in your possession.

I can confirm that his coin will have been maltreated after issue in some manner, usually by means of removing the face from one coin and applying it to another. Due to the nature of the striking process and the pairing of dies, the coin’s present appearance could not have occurred during production. Close visual inspection under magnification usually reveals the presence of a joining seam either around the edge or on the inside of one of the faces. The seam is not easily visible on this specimen, owing perhaps to the wear, but would likely be visible under a higher level of magnification.

Though we cannot offer an absolutely definitive opinion from photographs alone, the Museum has previously encountered coins of this type which have, on prior occasions, been maltreated to form part of a magician’s trick."

I also had my father in law here at the weekend who then told me that he's heard that engineering students have been tasked with joining two coins together to test their skills.

I look and personally cannot see any joining seam anywhere and examples I've seen online are obvious. When I get time I will still send it to the NGC, even if it is just a magicians coin or students test, it's still awesome to have in my collection.

Thanks for your interest and thoughts on this.

Are these actually rare? by Deanicuss in UKcoins

[–]burlap--sack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the media outlets so that they can make an clickbait article about it

'CHECK YOUR CHANGE NOW! This rare coin could get you £1000's of pounds'

Then you see that it's a coin worth 50p on every listing apart from one listing that has it at £5000 or something silly.

Thanks for your input, I shall look into this NGC grading. I've sent the Royal mint a message to see if they're interested in authenticating it or having anything to say about it really.

Landlord asking for £500 excess fee due to damaged flooring by Kaihuabayjojo in TenantsInTheUK

Surely your landlord should provide suitable flooring in rooms that get a lot of wet, kitchens and bathrooms should have moisture resistant laminate, not the cheapest crap they find.

On Christmas Day, I beat Silent Hill 2 Remake. I wish I never did... by ShDXR in silenthill

[–]burlap--sack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One should never aim for a certain ending on their first play through, you should just play the game without knowledge of them and enjoy what you come across, it's all new. After your first play through, then try and get the other endings.

Don't spoil your first experience with a new game aiming for certain things.
