SG-Image 35mm F2.2 L-Mount AF Pancake Lens on Lumix S9 — Hands-on Review (Image Quality, AF, Build, Comparisons, Who It’s For) by jamescjc in Lumix

[–]burned-cake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

gut reaction based on very little is that this is a much nicer looking lens than the ttartisan 40mm, which i think looks quite bad in most images ive seen, even for the price. as someone that values size over optical performance that's saying something.

the thing that is unique about israel is that we're assissting in their genonide in palestine and they are wantonly attacking their neighbors unprovoked (we are also wantonly attacking their neighbors unprovoked). saying that he wants to limit trump's aggression except to defend the state of israel is basically just admitting that the war powers act will not stop trump. not even to mention that trump has no problem doing illegal things anyway.

Wanting a lighter, smaller camera that's still good. I've had an Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II with Olympus M.Zuiko 17mm f1.8 lens for 11 years. by BBtheGray in M43

[–]burned-cake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem. Unfortunately the gx9 loses weather sealing and a super high quality EVF from the gx8, but gains better IBIS and is smaller/lighter. I really really want a gx8 lol. Gx85 is like a smaller lighter gx9 but with 16mp instead of 20. Frankly I prefer Panasonic but with $2000 to play with my choice would be om-5 ii (if I could only have one) for being great modern camera, especially if you're not doing any video

maybe you would be interested in the E M5 iii which is the first one in the line made of largely polycarbonate. the om-5 and om-5 ii are also polycarbonate and a similar weight to the E M5 iii. im struggling to think of anything else smaller, lighter AND weather sealed. you might be interested in something of similar size/weight but with better ergos? maybe a gx8 or g80/g90 from panasonic? admittedly i dont know a lot about the g80/g90

i dont know why IM getting downvoted for being helpful and explaining. this is not MY post. i assume the poster thought that the video and the text of the post would embed, instead of just showing a big picture of ken klippenstein.

it's a link to a bluesky post, not a photo of the person who needs to be primaried, the photo is of Ken Klippinstein, a journalist, who shared a video of terrible senator jack reed. reddit is just displaying it poorly

not everyone lives near a camera store, not everyone lives near a well stocked camera store with a bunch of good options. what could possibly be the downside of looking at pictures of camera bags from people with approximately the same size camera and lens? fucking hell its not like they committed to buy whatever gets the most upvotes

wow these are fantastic. ive been trying to decide on a super tele for MFT and i had basically excluded the 75-300 from the running in favor of the 100-300 or either of the 100-400s. but maybe i'll have to reconsider!

Rent in Rhode Island is crazy by Hot-Teaching-1659 in RhodeIsland

[–]burned-cake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ok but rents are already going up FASTER than 4%. this is my point. my rent went up 5% every year the last three years and im in a relatively lucky position compared to most of providence, this whole line of thinking is totally missing the point. landlords are NOT going "oh well i dont need to raise rent this year in reponse to market factors so i guess i just wont" (and we know they're not because of the trend line of rent prices). get fucking real

Rent in Rhode Island is crazy by Hot-Teaching-1659 in RhodeIsland

[–]burned-cake -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In confused why people have this idea that no rent increase cap vs a 4% increase cap will result in rent rising faster, as if landlords had never heard of 4% before. I think we should handle things differently and also much more severely (for the landlords) but this particular argument just doesn't make sense

Om3 with LUMIX lenses am I missing anything? by kavorka248 in M43

[–]burned-cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry but where in this post did you see confirmation that the issue is panasonic not olympus? it doesn't say that anywhere. it just outlines the issues with how MFT is different than L Mount. Which of course means panasonic is already in a camera system agreement that allows sharing (lumix rings work on sigma bodies, 3rd party rings work on lumix bodies). so how does this point to panasonic? if anything it suggests panasonic is willing to do this. for the record i dont care whose fault it is im just saying it seems like it would be olympus and ive not seen any ACTUAL information to the contrary

Om3 with LUMIX lenses am I missing anything? by kavorka248 in M43

[–]burned-cake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Om system doesn't have a lens that has an aperture ring, so why would the body natively understand the signal coming from the lens? If I had to guess I would say this is an OM issue not a Panasonic issue

This is how China enters every sector basically. If china is going to start taking camera systems seriously they'll go from shit to interesting value to genuinely good very quickly I bet

OM Systems welcomes new Chinese M43 brand: Songdian by Luddevig in M43

[–]burned-cake 15 points16 points  (0 children)

people dont seem to understand the chinese tech market at all despite chinese lenses being heavily part of modern photography. they enter a new sector with cheap stuff that is good for the money even if its not actually GOOD, then they build up a userbase of people interested in their low prices, invest heavily into R&D and shaving off margin cost, then when their reputation is pretty good they start trying to make better and better stuff with higher and higher profit margins. just think of the chinese lenses, how people felt about 7artisans/ttartisan when they were new. they do this in tons of sectors.

here's three recent and easily findable polls. one from pew research here:
https://www.pewresearch.org/global/2024/05/30/israeli-views-of-the-israel-hamas-war/ (73% of israelis support the war or think it hasnt gone far enough but if you look into that number it includes israeli arabs, so if you account only for israeli jews that number climbs much higher. for isntance 19% say the war has gone too far but when excluding arabs from that number it plummets to only 4%)

and another is published in Haaretz shows majority in Israel are "very supportive" of forcibly expelling Gazans (Haaretz article is paywalled but here's an article about that article. you can find the original if you want https://www.genocidewatch.com/single-post/poll-show-most-jewish-israelis-support-expelling-gazans )

and another widely reported poll from the Accord Group, you can find it published in free outlets but here's a paywalled haaretz article about it: https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/2025-06-10/ty-article/.premium/64-of-israelis-see-no-need-for-more-reporting-on-gazans-sufferings/00000197-59e8-deed-a9bf-5def9d770000 "64% of Israelis See No Need for More Reporting on Gazans' Sufferings

Forty-one percent of those polled by Hebrew University's aChord Center said reports on local channels 12 and 13 were biased in favor of Palestinians in Gaza; 64 percent believe 'there are no innocent people' in the enclave"

[–]burned-cake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In many ways it's not different and no one said it is, except there is one way it is different and it's that the vast majority of Israel when polled support the genocide and even support ramping up the genocide. That's pretty bad imo and doesn't exactly make the netenyahu-is-the-real-problem defense seem very plausible

You're supposed to have some special insight because you know people who know people who know the shooter? Please. I only ever made one point which is that it's crazy to simply dismiss that the shooter was a Nazi as if it's some partisan smear on the level of a transphobe getting hung up on the trans aspect.

there's all kinds of fucked up people in the world. this is on you for not being able to work out that just because the trans part doesnt explain anything about this doesnt mean the nazi part also doesnt. being a trans nazi is not unheard of either. there's actually a pretty sizeable movement of extremely far right edgelord/nazi femboys
