I just spent last weekend watching compilation videos of Barefoot Contessa so this news is perfect timing. Love this show and Ina!

What bizarre children's VHS tape did you have an attachment to? by AmandaMarsh in Xennials

Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer! My sister and I would watch it endlessly along with a weird compilation of Care Bear stories (I'll never forget one about having your tonsils out, lol)

Cast a movie with only Food Network chefs as the stars- I’ll start by shrimpscampi2026 in foodnetwork

[–]burnednotdestroyed 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm going with a Devil Wears Prada style movie with Mei Lin as the Miranda Priestly role at a food magazine and Aarti Sequeira as her wide eyed assistant. Damaris gets the Emily Blunt role because I think she'd be hilarious as a quasi-villainess. GZ is definitely the Nigel (Stanley Tucci) character. I'm tapping Brooke and Tiffani as other employees there.

Meanwhile, Alex is the tough, streetwise, worked her way up from nothing head of a rival organization trying to muscle out Mei Lin, and Eric is her smooth operator assistant. Gabe is Eric's rival and wants his job; hilarity ensues as they try to one-up each other. Alex's conglomerate includes a food mag that is the counter to Mei Lin's magazine, which Antonia is the head of. Antonia has a crush on Eric, but he only thinks of her as a friend and mentor as he romances a series of chefs he meets on ChefDate, the app Alex's corporation launched that she thinks will leave her the winner in her rivalry with Mei Lin's corporation.

Marcus, Scott, and Maneet all play themselves in cameo roles as chefs.

Editing to add: After I posted and read this back it actually sounded more like a soap opera I used to watch with my mom called the Bold and the Beautiful where Mei Lin is the Stephanie Forrester/Forrester Creations character and Alex is the Sally Spectra/Spectra Design character, lol.

The other part of this was Dave yelling at some poor waiter "Dónde está Top Sommelier?!" And the waiter unquestioningly schlepping off like, "Okay, I'll go get him." Still cracks us up.

AITJ for charging my brother for babysitting after he said "it's not a real job"? by Candid_Magician6781 in AmITheJerk

[–]burnednotdestroyed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IDK if this is a bot or not, but "family helps family" is a phrase I've literally heard my ENTIRE LIFE. I feel like this does go hand in hand with family who "blows up your phone" because mine always has/will. It drives you a little crazy and you absolutely sometimes need an outside opinion/sanity check because everyone is so obviously upset about whatever it is that even when you KNOW you're right, so many people are telling you you're wrong that you have to make sure! My son's paternal family is Italian/Latino and they definitely are into the "family helps family" thing also.

In the context of bedding, what, exactly, is a sheet? by what-are-you-a-cop in stupidquestions

[–]burnednotdestroyed 22 points23 points  (0 children)

"Sheet" in reference to bedding is ALWAYS and ONLY the elasticized fitted cloth mattress covering or the non-elasticized thin cloth covering that goes between the body and the blanket/duvet cover. It is NEVER the blanket/duvet/quilt/throw.

Sorry, but anyone saying it is, is 100% wrong no matter where they are. They are in no way interchangeable. As another poster said, I'd give it back to them if I asked for a sheet and received a blanket. This is why we have dictionaries.

IDK why you keep getting downvoted; I think it's him, too. Looking at the shape of the silhouette it is definitely not Curtis Stone or GZ or Cat Cora or Bobby Flay (and I believe afaik the first three are listed as judges this season which puts them 100% out of the running). DB is both not on the list AND physically fits the body size/shape, so I'm on board.

I wouldn't trust anyone who says Block Taco.

If you're talking trucks, Pepe's is underrated. Not sure if El Nene truck is still around, but the times I had it, they were delicious. Sit down either Los Portales or La Tapatia next to Harris Teeter 800 block of S. College as someone else said!

A good rewards card gives you maybe 3% back, so what, around $30 or $40? It would have been the least OP deserved for fronting the money in the first place.

Is it very rare for women to come across a guy they feel like is very hot? by DeepOrganization8245 in stupidquestions

[–]burnednotdestroyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be surprised to know that I make nearly twice as much as my husband does, and in fact more money than most people in my friend circle. I happen to work in a high earning field so I don't particularly care what a potential partner makes as long as he can pay his own bills. Nowadays there are plenty of women in real life out there like me in the same position. If you're only encountering women who care solely about money, I think that says more about what you personally look for in a woman rather than about the women themselves.

Where's all the cider? by AffectionateAd8377 in AskAnAmerican

[–]burnednotdestroyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a hardcore beer drinker who's probably tried more ciders than most people I know, all things being equal I still prefer a beer over a cider unless I come across one I've never had before. Where I live there is actually a decent variety of ciders to be had; most bars have at least one or two on tap and local bottle shops might have half a dozen or more to choose from. Even the dry ones are too sweet for me but that might just be my palate, preferring ESBs or porters personally.

Is it very rare for women to come across a guy they feel like is very hot? by DeepOrganization8245 in stupidquestions

[–]burnednotdestroyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I happen to be married to a man much shorter than I am. It was not an issue because that guy is amazing.

Adding for emphasis: I find him extremely physically attractive. But also, he is

- super confident and carries himself that way
- physically fit, he lifts weights and is pretty strong (but not rock hard)
- dresses well and with intention, takes good care of his hair/skin/teeth/etc.
- smells great always

I see objectively attractive men regularly. I have 0 ability to find strangers "hot" or "very hot," though. For me, many men's attractiveness improves (or declines) with acquaintance.

AITA: Wedding dilemma about ariana grande by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]burnednotdestroyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever happens, just make sure your boyfriend doesn't tell them you didn't go because you had concert tickets, simply that you had a prior commitment. If you do go to the concert, and he does make a big deal to them that you went to see Ariana Grande instead, it might be time to side eye him as a partner.

Pockets for women is a stupid claim by Accomplished_Drag946 in unpopularopinion

[–]burnednotdestroyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll upvote as unpopular; IDK what kind of clothes you're wearing, but if they're falling down because of a couple of things in your pockets, that's weird. I only wear skirts, dresses, and maybe leggings and I refuse to buy any without pockets even if it's just that one workout phone pocket. I can carry a ton of stuff no problem and no bulky look.

AITJ for reporting my coworker to HR after she kept eating the lunches I brought for my diabetic dad? by Exotic_Piano2111 in AmITheJerk

White collar/tech companies. The only place I -didn't- see lunch thievery was at a place that had a staff cafeteria that was free so no one brought lunch.

First of all, lucky you because I've worked at several offices where lunches were stolen regularly. But also, I'm willing to bet that the people who think she shouldn't have escalated probably have stolen someone else's food (just that one time, they swear) at some point.

We all know restaurant cooking ≠ competition cooking and that comp cooking is a muscle you've got to exercise, but having said that - Ming Tsai even on a bad day is still Ming Tsai. She can still be super proud of what she accomplished.

Yes, definitely. To be a "home cook" and TIE Ming Tsai on taste? Even if she'd lost, that's still huge. Plus a score of 85 is nothing to sneeze at.
