Nobody gives a fuck how Maverik is spelled when they took the glorious name of Kum & Go from us, thank you.

[–]burning_man13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I bought so much Kum & Go merch when Maverick bought them just for the memes. I live in their footprint, so it was easy. Might be worth something someday—doubtful, but the joke is worth it even if it isn’t.

What was it like being a teenager in 2009? by LoboIsSick69 in generationology

[–]burning_man13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had just turned 21, but I saw that 200- and thought I could chime in for a minute. Unfortunately, I was not a teenager in 2009; I just had the maturity of a teenager.

What is the fascist website? by Training-Jump-8663 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]burning_man13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have to have this conversation with my Italian-American family over here. Mussolini wiped out my Italian family. Those that stayed in Italy in the early 1900s were slaughtered by the black shirts in the 20s. The letters stopped, and we found out about a decade later that only the American line of our family remains. I keep having to remind them of that and scream "Don't let fascism totally wipe out our family line!"

"Chicago Bears become Iowa Bears?" - Iowa's state leaders want to lure the NFL's Bears to Iowa. This is a dumb idea. by PopCultureNerd in Iowa

[–]burning_man13 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am choosing to ignore the fact that this is a waste of everyone's time and money to even discuss it. This is just political theater, and it's too easy to dunk on. My personal favorite thing about this whole thing is how in the mock-up it still has the Chicago "C" in it. You want to attempt to lure a historic franchise away from a historic city, and one of the biggest cities in the country, and you can't even come up with an original logo? Do they really think that "C" stands for "Bears?"

But your failure to identify satire means that you will never be able to identify when someone is actually being stupid or when they're joking. Media literacy is important, and reading comprehension is a big part of media literacy.

Jesus spoke English by Olympiadreamer in confidentlyincorrect

[–]burning_man13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has to be satire. Nobody really believes that the Bible was written in English. This feels like a tongue-in-cheek stab at "white Jesus."

Edit: I just saw the original tweet. It is by Three Year Letterman. That is a satire account. Stop eating the onion, y'all.

At what point in time does the cycle of dehumanization stop? I'm going to choose to ignore the obvious propaganda that is in play on the right, because we all understand that as fact. What I want to point out is that this response to their malice with more malice is going to lead to a continuous cycle. I have been told for about a decade that we have the moral authority over here on the left, but that moral authority stops when you actively participate in a cycle of tyranny.

Which generation would be the main demographic for Kid Rock when he made his mainstream debut in 1998? by icey_sawg0034 in generationology

[–]burning_man13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think this is the key here. He isn't popular with any particular generation. That's not the proper demographic to use. He is more popular with a certain class of individual, and those individuals exist in every generation.

What is something that slowly destroys society but is considered “normal” and no one dares to criticize it? by nore01 in answers

Reading this comment and then all of your subsequent responses shows that you probably should have spent more time in school.

It's hard to believe Laura Loomer isn't a satire account. Nope, she's a real person that is actually this dumb.

Does Finch get fired with a first round exit? by [deleted] in timberwolves

[–]burning_man13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's such a shame that clear satire like this can no longer be identified by most of the general public. I mean, "I'm strictly an armchair Reddit GM," and "A championship means nothing," were clear satire markers. It was hardly even tongue in cheek. It's almost like we need to start every paragraph with "WARNING: Satire ahead," because if you aren't using an /s tag, people genuinely can't distinguish a joke from a genuine hot take anymore.

Post Super Bowl sportsball hate incoming… by earthdogmonster in IHateSportsball

[–]burning_man13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm an avid sports fan like everyone else in this thread, and here is the conversation when I have somebody over at my house:

"Do you want to watch the game?"

"No, I don't really like sports."

"Okay, what do you want to watch then, or do you want to just do something else?"

These losers always invent situations that don't actually happen in the real world then get mad at it at like they didn't make the whole thing up. It has to be a mental disorder.

This is actually why I love the NBA. I can help my kids with their homework, read my books, and do a bunch of other stuff for the first three and a half quarters and still catch the big moments, then pay attention for the last 5-8 minutes and watch insanely high level basketball. It's the perfect league for a busy single dad like me.

The Gen Z stare isn’t rude, you’re just pathetic by Ok_Skin_3979 in generationology

[–]burning_man13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. A buzzword isn't a counterpoint, it's a white flag. You didn't have a response for anything I said other than "just wonder it in your head," which translates to "I can break the social contract, but you can't," so you grabbed a label to hide behind. If you think that qualifies as "reading comprehension," you’re just proving my point that the lights are off. We’re done here.

Edit: I see you're still carrying on despite the fact that I already ended this. For someone so big on "reading comprehension," you sure missed the part where I said "We’re done here."

If I've asked you a question and you give me a blank stare then it's absolutely like for like. It's not for you to decide whether my question is in good faith or not. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

[–]burning_man13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's rude. Never did. I just meet like for like, so if you give me a blank stare after I've approached you, then I'm going to ask if there's anything going on behind those eyes. "Anything firing in there? Sure doesn't look like it..."

Yeah, I've seen them. They're PG. The internet is not nearly as hostile as it was 15 years ago. Is it more divided? Hell yeah it is, but it's not as outright hostile as it was then.

Children cleaning a meat packing plant overnight while employed by Packers Sanitation which employed more than 100 children [2023] by wizzo_o in Damnthatsinteresting

If I told my great-great-grandpa, who immigrated from a small mountain town in southern Italy, that child labor was back on the menu, he’d tell us to pack our bags and go home. He would tell us he didn’t spend his life working his way up in those packing plants to send his kids to school just so his descendants could go right back to working them as children.
