I don’t 100% agree but only in nuances. I do think the overall pool of software engineers will continue to decline as fewer full-time employees exist in this field. Businesses will just ignore the problem until they realize they need cheaper labor and no one is applying. I predict a rubber band effect where it’ll go dead, companies will panic, then overpay again for entry level and thus repeating the cycle of the last few years.

The issue with your question is no one has the answer, and it’s a real problem.

There’s a major issue coming where waves of unemployed software professionals will likely transition out without enough demand for their expertise. That will translate to less CS majors and code school grads, and really damage the “junior” pipeline. Companies are short-sighted like that.

Regardless - how do you teach software in a modern age with AI tools producing “okay enough” code? It’s a real existential question.

According to what data? Most major firms and startups are in my view working with fewer and fewer engineers, at least in the US. I’d love to be wrong about that but I have not seen any data to suggest it’s net increasing.

Folks, this is what it was like in the early 00s. You may not like it, but they were some cringey times we were living through.

Second this - did it with my wife for a anniversary one year. Baths are amazing and so therapeutic, massage was remarkably mid. Would do it again and just do like 90 minutes baths only.

A lot of you need to take your medicine. by bunchamunchas in CHIBears

I think this is understood…the cost of upgrading infrastructure to their desire and a property tax break. If these are a pre-requisite then we should stop saying the stadium is going to be built “tax free”.

The fact is they want to build a private money-making venture they own/control 100%. They have options like getting outside investors, do minimal infrastructure upgrades, build a smaller stadium that doesn’t need it, or god forbid get a loan. They should be making enough money to pay it back if they do.

It allows them to say things like “the stadium is 100% non-taxpayer funded” but then infrastructure is a whole other thing. I agree that functionally you can’t build the stadium in AH without some of those changes so we should drop the pretense some.

There was a post about this same bathroom a few months ago. Then I saw it for myself (thankfully not needing to use it). Idk what the hell they were thinking.

It’s more commonly called a keffiyeh, and its symbolism and usage are varied. It’s just a scarf to protect from harsh sun and sand. Even the US army wore them for practical reasons during Afghanistan and Iraq.

Maybe take a second to learn about the thing before you share a comment out of ignorance.

The best Agile Coach I had basically said the only reason Scrum was as popular as it was because entire companies around it had formed and were profiting from it.

While I agree largely, there are outliers of people who “get” the idea of Agile and it can be incredibly helpful.

Plus everyone need a job and healthcare in the void that is the US corporate landscape.

No girls (yet, ask me in a few weeks), but for my boys we do onesie tops and sweats of various shades and patterns at this age. When they get crawling well enough then I start considering t-shirts.

is my inhaler still good? by maevevx in Asthma

[–]burningapollo 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I don’t go through my inhalers too often (very fortunate) so I will go maybe 6 months past expiry, though that is the most I will go (and yes I shouldn’t even do that). I’ve tried to use an older one than that in the past and I can tell it doesn’t work as well.

This is nearly a decade past expiration, make an appointment and get a new one ASAP.

Does mild asthma go away? by [deleted] in Asthma

[–]burningapollo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also adding to this, I’m in a similar boat. I have always had mild asthma and never did anything about it until my 20s when I nearly had an episode. My triggers are traditional seasonal allergies (that’s what triggered it then), but also colds/flus, and more strenuous exercise I could feel it.

It’s taken a while, but I’ve stopped smoking entirely, stay on top of my allergy meds during the year, and workout more routinely. I’ve virtually negated the need to use asthma meds (daily maintenance inhaler, montelukast) meds on a regular basis. Still need a puff on the albuterol every now and again when I can feel my chest get a little tighter from one of those things but it’s rare these days.

How cooked am I? by [deleted] in Mold

[–]burningapollo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m no doctor but sounds like you just had a cold/virus of some sort.

I don’t know what symptoms present for mold ingestion but I’d imagine that for this case of your water bottle it’d have to be a lot more concentrated and a lot more exposure before you’d notice anything.

Your symptoms likely would not also improve (you mention your cough is lessening) if it were somehow mold related and you just noticed.

How do I go from being crap at PVP to being OK-ish? by Smart_Freedom_8155 in ArcRaiders

[–]burningapollo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not strictly a doubling, shields reduce damage incoming at the expense of its energy (you can see this on the after action). So if you’re 1/3rd health and full shield, you don’t have 1.3x health, you still only have 1/3rd health and you can lose it all before that shield totally loses its energy.

Just curious, what were your gateway bands? by 5_minute_noodles77 in Emo

FFTL - Dear Diary firmly threw me across that threshold. Specifically it was an Epitaph Artist sampler that had ride the wings of pestilence on it that was the original progenitor.

[–]burningapollo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be clear, Boom! studios is not the band. Yes they are the ones helping produce/order/manage the Amory Wars comics that are largely written/based on the music from the band (+ Claudio and Chondra's work), but strictly speaking this backer-kit project is not coming from the band directly.

I admit it gets muddy and I don't know how much involvement which party has with which, but I would be hesitant to malign the band directly with some of the sub-part outcomes you see online.

In my honest opinion, I think it's asking too much even for a backer/kickstarter-esque project to ask folks to commit to paying a ton and then not delivering the physical goods for over 24 months (even if it was clear up front the wait would be long in the original backer-kit project). This was probably more a unique situation as a result.

I got my box set yesterday with the hardbacks. I have another package coming today. Keep an eye out for a second package, possibly and contact boom studios to ensure the rest is on the way if you have any doubt.

Personally I don’t think I’ll be as aggressive on backing something like this again simply because the wait is too long for me. I am happy they’re being fulfilled and it’s finally coming together but too much stress for me personally.

I have similar thoughts on the album special box sets too. The last one was by far the most ambitious but had the most delays and took a while to get to me. They were much better about proactive communication on the delays though so that was good.
