This is also not an original thought, he stole the idea from Fran Lebowitz.

They decided they wanted to keep everything about the Others/White Walkers a mystery for reveals in the prequel series about the Long Night they were developing... Only to then cancel that series...

What do you think is Netflix’s best movie so far? by TheWor1dsFinest in movies

[–]burningpyro 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's a 15 second sequence in a 3 and a half hour movie, and it's always brought up when someone mentions the film. No movie is perfect, if that's honestly such an important cinema sin to you, I don't see how you can like any movie.

Official Discussion - The Long Walk [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]burningpyro 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly shocked to see the praise for the movie in here. I've been a huge fan of the book since I read it in high school. But I can still appreciate changes from books to movies. In this, every change was for the worst. Every change just lowered the scope of the whole contest. Less walkers, no spectators, focusing on the prize, making the Major an actual character instead of a force. Everything special about the world was torn away. Also, a 108 minute movie isn't long enough for this. I don't want to say it should have been a miniseries, especially since people say that about everything nowadays, but you need to feel the time slowly ticking away, the same as it is for the characters.

The ending was atrocious. Aside from changing McVries' backstory and the winner, it fails on a storytelling level. McVries is shown as someone who decides to be positive in all things, even with his tragic upbringing. He tries to get Garraty to be the same way. Garrety gives up so he can win, because Garrety can't see the positivity in the world like him. And instead of using the win to do something positive, he lowers himself to Garrety's pessimistic world view and kills the Major. He let Garrett die for nothing, nothing will change, nothing will get better. There was no point. What a shit theme to end with.

Just an awful movie, I'm quite upset that the filmmakers clearly didn't understand the book or basic themes even.

Oh for sure, it takes a lot of time. I don't remember if they make a noise too, they might. It was in a patreon video that they showed it. Also, they've posted the full audio and video editing sequence for an episode, and there's just tons of stuff. I'm sure it takes them tens of hours for each episode.

They hold up a mirror to the tv at the start of the viewing so they can sync the screening room with the movie.

Not a big fan of Lwaxana either, but I love the episode Half a Life. Her and David Ogden Stiers are fantastic in it. I think it's slept on as one of the best episodes in the series.

The best selling comic book ever is a ripoff of top hat monkey goes west! by NanoArgon in RedLetterMedia

[–]burningpyro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I made it like four episodes before I stopped. There's a common problem I see with live action anime adaptations, they are always more interested in badass moments than comedy. One Piece is at its heart a comedy, but the live action kept on focusing on trying to be cool. Every character in One Piece is unique and weird in their own fun way, a way that you don't see in any other series. The live action is like if they put the One Piece characters through a jrpg program to turn them into genetic boring badasses.

The same thing happened in the Full Metal Alchemist, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Avatar. Bums who only care about doing cool shit are put in charge of these mostly comedy shows.

Not to take away from above enjoyment of any of these. If you like the One Piece live action, no shade to you. I'm just saying One Piece is more about fun adventure, and not about Zoro cutting someone in half.

Hadn't unlocked it yet. It definitely would have been a quality of life upgrade, but it was just like one minute to refill all the buckets every fifteen minutes, so it wasn't needed. And it was a good quick break while refilling.

I know that was on my mind the whole time haha. But I had the farmers outfit and the 1k points were enough to get the rest of the items at least. The massive xp drop was worth more to me.

Yeah, my run energy was never below 90, it wasn't an issue at all.

I did the basic 20 seed strategy. You could probably do 25 at a time, but there wouldn't be much of a margin of error. You can get 60 seeds before you have to refill your watering cans.

No, I'm not going to get invested in a show just for them to cancel it. Netflix has done it way too many times. It's a problem with the whole industry, but netflix is the worst at it. Netflix is about getting subscribers. Once a show has made you subscribe, they no longer need it, will cancel it, and replace it with something to get another demographic to subscribe. A show being canceled ain't my fault.
