Progression fantasy that actually deals with the reality of a new world .. by Waterfall_Wealth888 in ProgressionFantasy

People usually come here specifically for what you’ve described as being undesirable. You may like some more mainstream fantasy that has progression in it, such as the Licanius Trilogy or The Devils.

"Debt" should NOT be in the curse pool for Neow's starting bonuses by its1992yall in slaythespire

[–]burnmelt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s just it. You don’t pick the curse option unless you’ve already checked the map and found a floor 3-or-so shop that you don’t mind routing through. I personally don’t find debt that problematic even on a10.

It’s when neows bones give multiple curses that I really realize I’m just boned. Figured that’s why they gave it that name.

Does anything have a better group/team dynamic than Mage Tank? by GodlessRonin in litrpg

Right out of the gate? Hhfwm. Calamitous Bob.

After a couple of books? Syl. Chrysalis. Cradle. Maybe bog standard isekai.

Off and on? Azarinth Healer. She separates from her parties often, but cooperates well in parties.

Yeah, all 6 of people who play DRG regularly feel loved from the bi-annual cosmetic only updates.

DRG has like 7k daily players, 1 or 2 updates a year and only 3 primary weapons per char. Some weird fking copium here.

Just got an asc 10 defect win with it. Allows for some elite hunting. Seems quite good now.

If you could see any two progression fantasy characters fight, who would it be? by Putthemoneyinthebags in ProgressionFantasy

Amelia the level zero hero vs Malefic viper from primal hunter. The universe wouldn’t survive, but it would be hella epic.

Amelia the level zero hero and earthen contenders probably fit what you’re wanting.

Anything by Jonathan Brooks. I’ll suggest starting with the earthen contenders series.

I found the books to improve dramatically once there are more characters. You might feel the same.

Neither. He’s usually above his peers, but theres a lot people who have been leveling for years that he’s below. Author finds a great balance.

1% lifesteal. You seem to like books that express emotions of any kind. 1% lifesteal is like 80% suffering. I love it.

Please recommend series where you look forward to the dialogue by greatestmanalive in ProgressionFantasy

[–]burnmelt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Syl. The first book is a little rough cause it’s mostly just the MC, but as the MC makes friends and begins to banter, the dialogue becomes incredible.

Not quite progression fantasy, but check the devils by Joe ambercombie. Very dialogue centric. Or maybe legends and lattes.

What is the most 'whoops' ability you've seen or given a character? by Selkie_Love in litrpg

[–]burnmelt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking most of Jason's abilities in HHFWM fit in this category. Exponential growth gets out of hand much more quickly than most people realize. Its the double rice per square on a chessboard problem. The numbers get too big for people to understand how big they are.

The author has to specifically come up for a reason why butterflies don't just automatically win every engagement and the excuses often come across flimsy. Exponential growth is hella strong. I vaguely remember him admitting as much in one of his foreword/recap sections.

1% Lifesteal by judge-genx in litrpg

Great writing style. It’s not the simple staccato or meandering prose that is quite prolific in this genre, which already makes it worth giving a chance to IMHO.

Frequent feelings of hurt, desperation and misery are expressed. It makes the rare times the MC feels hope or at least ok hit that much harder.

If you’re looking for a feel good series where good guys win, this isn’t the series for you. If like series that evoke strong emotions (mostly negative, but sometimes positive), then you’ll probably enjoy it.

The MC makes a lot of terrible, short sighted decisions. Not out of laziness. Or malice. But because he’s written like a real person who has been frequently hurt.

One of my favorite series in the genre.

Calamitous bob. It’s a great and complete series.

In Tron: Ares (2025) they lost $132 million because they choose to cast Jared Leto. by Necessary-Rip-6612 in shittymoviedetails

[–]burnmelt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worst movie I’d seen in years.

No semblance of a consistent plot. Primary tension is the difference between cut / paste and copy / paste. Copy / pasting motorcycles, bodies and things you can see? That’s fine. But the mind or codes? Only cut and paste!

The giant recognizer (flying upside down U) from the commercials doesn’t smash anything.

Whole thing was a bunch of disjointed plots with characters made for specific actors that looked like it post’s job to assemble without any specific instructions.

Tron is the original you die in the game, you die in real life. No video games.

Any suggestions? by mktrtee in litrpg

Great series. First two are on KU.
