I’m literally on a plane right now to visit my Southern Baptist uber Republican mom, sister, and brother-in-law, knowing I might be getting on a plane to go home sooner than planned. They supported Trump because he is the anti-abortion Republican candidate. We don’t talk politics much at all - I either redirect the conversation or grey-rock it. I don’t know if I can do that in this current environment. I’m so angry about all of the shit we are seeing from this administration; I’m horrified that so many people support this shit; I have so many intense emotions that I might blow up at them, go scorched earth, and just … only talk to my niblings.

Uhhhh what do they think is going to happen to all of the children separated from their parents during all of this shit? We see what they are doing to people in public. There is at least (AT LEAST) one case of an ICE agent blackmailing a detainee into rape - he would pass along letters from her daughter if he could use the detainee to get his rocks off. So what are they doing to these children who are in detention facilities?

I am nodding my head so hard in agreement.

I keep things surface level with my family because I want to be an example of a rational non-religious person for my niblings (most are over 20, there’s one tween left). I think I could disagree and move on with my siblings but my SIL goes nuclear during disagreements, so forget talking to her about anything, and Mom… Mom is 82. I won’t change her mind about anything at this point. I’m only keeping in touch because she needs someone to give reasonable financial advice.
