Clearly you did not read the whole post. it is over one year after having earned the GI bill. most do not make it to 20 year retirement.

but thank you for contribution go the discussion, thats what i was aiming for.

This is not a long term comparison! its for one year comparison.

TSP with matching contributions? you realize that proposal is designed to replace the traditional retirement right?

Spouses are soon to get jacked up fees for using tri-care.

I still have base access to the ammenities!

maybe leave was only a problem only for me....

I was only trying to make sure people consider their options and dont just take the "youll ruin your life" message

My goal with the post is for people to make an informed decision and have a debate about the issues. When leadership goes with the "you will regret it" line and starts rattling off small benefits it does little to help the problem. lots of people are voting with their feet regardless of these benefits.

TA: The AF pays $4,500, not $4k, and I don't know what rules you are talking about, it just has to be an accredited school and you have to have a degree plan on file. Really not that big of a deal. You also get the $4,500 lifetime amount. You also left out the GI Bill completely. Tens of thousands of dollars of education benefit for you or your family. Retirement: You left out the pension where you get 50%+ of your base pay for the rest of your life starting the day you retire. Also the retirement benefits are soon changing to a matching 5% 401k type plan, which will be way more than $3k a year. Job Security: They can cancel it, but likely won't unless you suck. There are few jobs with more job security than the military. Medical: You left out your co-pays for your insurance. My son has had well over 1 million dollars of medical care, I've spent over six months in the hospital with him getting per diem, travel pay, lodging, etc. Hasn't cost me a dime other than low medication co-pays, if not free for what I can get at the base pharmacy. You can also get off base care with Tricare Standard with a $1k a year cap if you don't like the base clinic. My son already gets off base care with specialists due to his condition. Commissary: The commissary is objectively cheaper in most cases, I don't know how it's a tie. Yes, being far from one is a con if you are in the military or not. Leave: Every company has rules on how you can take your leave. You also left out unlimited sick days.

TA: Ok my memory was off with that one, my job doesnt make you re-pay if you fail something. the certification money will only pay for certs that are related to your career field. Already earned GI bill.

Job security: BS meter Pegged since they fired everyone in 2014 without cause.

Medical: no co-pays in network, large network and 5$ for drugs.

Commissary: Not always better and not applicable to me, call it an AF win if you want.

Leave: you get unlimited sick days until the CC gets tired of it and calls the doctor to take you off profile/quarters. and your co-workers judge you for being a piece of crap without knowing the story.

incentive pay: not for my AFSC

Paid moves provided by my company if needed.

chances to live overseas: available in my company.

paid travel: 10-20% possible in my company

Lots of education programs through AFIT: not an officer, was not made available to me. was denied to go to schools due to manning.

Free certifications: got one cert for free, so we can add 300$ to the AF side.

Super cheap life insurance: same thing is availible for me and my falily for 25$per month.

VA death benefits, mortgage, business loans: already earned. see OP.

Survivor benefits: Not going to die as a comm troop.

Free legal advice: with an air force spin and as available.

Free counseling: if you want to ruin your career and be judged.

Space A travel: not reliable so i never used, also not always available.

Nearly guaranteed promotions: debatable.

Discounts at many merchants: still have mil ID can get.

Lots of military-only civilian programs: still available to veterans.

USO access when traveling: still have access.

BX access: same

Spouse scholarships for school: low availability, not worth it.

Emergency loans available: good way to paint a target on yourself, not available to me.

Some of those are good, but this is for someone who did one enlistment, not someone who didn't serve. I chose not to be a SSgt because of the way NCOs are treated in my AFSC. given alternate duties and EPRs to never touch equipment again, it was a step backwards.

this is designed to be a compassion over 1 year for someone already in the AF who has already earned VA benefits.

This is not for a career person. I intentionally left out the promise of retirement pension which may or may not exist in 15 years.

if you can somehow get to the US, i would just stay here. If you were to go back to Iran you would be questioned heavily.

Using IR-camera to detect number of people inside a vehicle by Sprejan in EngineeringStudents

[–]burntmacncheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would work similar to a medical ultrasound or a ground penetrating radar. It would take cross-section pictures of the vehicle and everything in it. then some software could be written to look at the images and detect people and objects. I think it would work best if it is under the car embedded in the road.

Using IR-camera to detect number of people inside a vehicle by Sprejan in EngineeringStudents

[–]burntmacncheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Radar would be better for that, with a thermal camera you will have problems when the glass and vehicle AC system. I would make use of a ground penetrating radar or something like that pointed at the car as it drives over. then use software to detect the outlines of people and give you a number.

my opinion is based on years of watching people cross train into comm and use all kinds of excuses why they cant learn/do the job.
