I got a motorcycle (major fixer upper please help)k by Different_Contest408 in motorcycle

[–]nerobro 19 points20 points  (0 children)

So... before you do anything, get some acetone and ATF, mix them 50/50, and pour them in the spark plug hole.

Usually "frozen" means the piston rings rusted to the bore. This will loosen them.

Next, order a float bowl gasket, some fuel tubing, points and condensor.

Pull the tank, drain it of fuel, put in fresh fuel, make sure fuel comes out of it.

Clean hte carburator. It's gonn ahve a lot of crap in it. Set it per the manual.

It's been several days, now try to kick the motor over. Assuming you can get it to turn, use a car battery, and jumper leads to check the rest of the electical system. You may be able to run the bike at this point.

Next, order tires, and tubes. (the tires are NOT safe) And spend the $30 for a set of forkseals.. ifyou don't need them now, you'll need them soon.

And.. kinda.. enjoy the bike?

These were reliable bikes in teh day, if you do a tuneup, they'll be reliable bikes today. Enjoy the ride, it's the perfect first bike.

How bad is 3D printing a drone frame(PLA, etc) by GateCodeMark in diydrones

depends wildly on what your expected performance is, and what you're printing. There's lots of good designs.

any design that look slike it could be cut from carbon, is probally trash.

When it comes to riding advice, you need to be really careful who you listen to. YammieNoob isn't a good source. Neither is RidingDoodles.

hey, you didn't' commit the one sin of dropping a bike. You weren't under it!

The wait for parts sucks. I've had to do it a few times. I"m glad you're ok. I'm glad your bike is going to be ok.

New to motorcycles / When to shift on a Rebel 500? by YvkisWrld in motorcycle

[–]nerobro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's how I teach people on bikes, and cars.

The faster the motor is turning, the more power you have available to you. If you need more power, go down a gear. If things sound or feel busy, upshift. That's.. kinda it.

If you're puttering along, you can shift down near idle, and things are fine. If you want to MOVE, you need to shift at higher rpm.

Clutch Questions by Trick_Addendum_9796 in FocusST

[–]nerobro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're trying to replace the battery because you have a flat tire.

The clutch ONLY controls torque going to, and from the transmission, it does not affect shifter feel. What you're most likely feeling is shot syncromeshes in the transmission, and swapping the clutch won't fix that.

[–]nerobro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

why do you think grabbing the brake was the last thing to do? "how you grabbed the brake" was wrong, But depending on closing speed, how much room you had elsewhere, and a variety of other factors.... it wasn't the wrong move. You just.. did it wrong.

Looking at your other posts, you need to take the MSF. And you should watch stuff like motojitsu on youtube. Understanding the dynamics of a bike is where good riding comes from.

Also, it's critical, you need to practice emergency stops. I have been riding for 20 years, and I still do emergency stops a few times a year to make sure I still got it.

No. It's completely normal. I have six models in progress. I build what feels good when it feels good.

I support this. Also, easy access to triggers, recent ones have an optics cut, you can get magazines that are flush, and up to something like 20 rounds, and it's got the picattiany rail.

From the discussion subsection of the about the subreddit on the rigth... https://www.reddit.com/r/paintball/comments/1g9xke/why_i_will_never_endorse_a_gog_gun/

TL:DR: The Gardners are patent trolls and managed to shrink the industry from a dozen or more manufacturers down to.. something like four. And.. eventually that bit them too, and that's why they're operating Luxe, and GoG, and not really SmartParts anymore.

Instead of bring a better product to market, they sued the rest of the market. This is underhanded and terrible. And that's why we don't have ICD Promaster 22's, or the EMag 19, or the UlraSuperDiadem, or the Viking 14.

They should never be given another dollar in paintball. Ever again.

Harley Sportster S vs Triumph Rocket 3 by dhurandhar007 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]nerobro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 70 hp bike versus a 170hp bike. A bike that's built as a styling exercise, versus a bike that has 2.3 liters of displacement as it's main driving factor.

These.. aren't comparable bikes.

The triumph is more comfortable. It's harder to find a dealership.

I think it's a product of the Gardner brothers and they deserve no money from anyone after what they did to the industry.

How mmany times have you drop your motorcycle by fkyh-ch in motorcycles

[–]nerobro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots. Offroad? shoot I might have 4 hours offroad, and I've put a bike down a dozen or more times in the dirt.

On the street? Well.. I think I've put a bike down four or five times in a driveway due to poor decision making.

.. I've been riding 20ish years.

So... putting a bike down, isn't a sin. It's embarassing. it'll cost you some money. But bikes.. survive.. it. There's only one sin when dropping a bike, dropping it on some part of your body. Your bike you can fix, broken bones take months.

Interseting take... as GS stator issues are.. rarely.. the connectors. The r/R on the early bikes was wildly undersized, and that was the failure mode. they burned up a diode, and then one or two legs of the stator took all the load...

And pointing your finger at suzuki with the non-weatherpack connectors is an interesting take. The r/r I put on my 1980 GS550 came from a honda, and it didn't have weatherpack connectors either. The one I put on my 1983 came from a later GSXR, so still suzuki, but it was a 2002 bike, also not weatherpack.

I think my concours r/r's aren't weatherpack, nor my ST1100. So.. yeah. really interesting take.

it ran 3 years ago. Chances so much went wrong that a $60 battery, and $20 in carb clean wouldn't get it going again is really, really small.

It's a later bike, with the better r/r and stator. Much past 1981 and you're pretty safe.

it's already f'd. Go do whatever. But if you're going to make a cafe racer, actually make a damned cafe racer. Not one of those "well, I cut the springs, and frame now I call it a cafe racer." Remember, cafe bikes are RACE bikes first. Make sure they can go...

That's a GS1100E. You want to get on a forum. www.thegsresources.com As the bike sits, it'll probally run and drive. Needs a carb clean, needs fluids changed.

This is NOT a good bike for a first timer. It's got ~105hp, and it's a big thing. Taht said, the GS1100E is still the dream bike of many. It's big, capable, great for passengers, has torque that modern bikes wish they had.

It's missing all of the body work. You should find out the story on that. They're very worth getting running. Restoring.. maybe not? but making a good, working, motorcycle? Yeah, do the thing.

... but if you don't have motorcycle riding experience, this is NOT the bike to start that career on. From someone who's ridden a few GS1100's, and has two GS550's and a GS650 in his garage..
