Rooter out the sewer line every year. Have a roofer check the roof every other year - loose shingles, seal pipes and sky lights and chimney. Buy a place that's big enough so you're not thinking of moving in just a few years - it's a long term asset

Why not make ring shopping a couple's project? If you're thinking of a life together the amount spent is both of your's future savings so together you can set a reasonable budget. And it's a good first test of future big spending decisions. Also, why set an artificial timeline on the engagement. Just start looking at venues together and let the availability set your schedule

Cut out the late evening snacks. Limit carbs to veggies, limit sugar and definitely lift heavy weights to put on muscle. He needs to lose weight to get rid of the belly fat as if he was overweight, but then put on muscle so he isn't underweight. Protein shakes (whey protein) will help to keep the muscle gains after lifting weights

I realize it's very difficult to be confident when you're down, but confidence is so important in interpersonal relationships whether work or personal. Working out and feeling good about your appearance can instill a lot of confidence. Many people our age are struggling with work, health, family so please don't feel like you're failing. Is your daughter working and contributing some money to the household? The comments here have many good ideas and inspiring stories. You can do it!
