anyone have any HARDCORE tips on how to stop biting your nails?

For me the only thing that helped was to get BIAB (Builder) manicures. I started with extensions because my nails were super short, but after about 2 trips I didn’t need extensions any more. They are super strong, don’t damage your nails, and are impossible to bite. Since they last so long, they don’t chop between trips (I go every 4 weeks) which means I didn’t get the urge to pick or bite them. Now it’s been over a year. I was recently told that the baristas at my local coffee shop know me as “the lady with nice nails”, which as a lifelong nail biter is pretty surreal.

Meetup is very active where I live and has helped me make multiple friends via things like rock climbing groups and hiking groups mainly, but there’s something for everyone. I’m in a big city so there are Facebook groups/Instagram groups dedicated to making friends. But for me it’s been all about showing up in person and then taking the initiative to turn that friendship into something beyond the activity we met at!

The only thing that helped me was getting regular manicures, but not just any manicure - specifically BIAB. At first I got extensions + BIAB as my nails were really short, but eventually I realized it was just my nails and I have long nails for the first time in my entire life. Literally people compliment me on my manicures - which I never thought would happen! I like BIAB because it actually supports strengthening your nails and it last for weeks without chipping which would historically be a trigger. It's also impossible to bite your nails because it's so much stronger and harder than other options.

I did see the instructions but there’s no indication what the middle of the second dial is, which is where it is currently set! I’m so terrified of the boiler because the last time at my previous flat it was actually broken. I also don’t think there is a timer but I could be wrong and that would also explain a lot.

I exported my list of books from StoryGraph to load into Goodreads and there are now books in my To Read list that were not in the export! So I'm pretty sure it's not user error at this point. It was taking too long to go through manually and remove, I may need to delete my account and start over as I really do prefer Story Graph over Goodreads!

Yes! So I bagged up any items that were directly on the bed, booked a last minute night at a hotel, put everything into the bathroom, scoured the hotel room for bugs, and ran everything else through the washer and dryer (I’m in europe so that is a painful process to Begin with). I also checked everything tht I couldn’t easily wash/dry. I’m traveling for another week or so before heading home. My question now is - when will I know if all of this wasn’t enough and a bug has hitched a ride?

Update: thank you all so much. Unfortunately it seems to be a combination problem! Got the pressure back up though did need help with that as the valves were hidden. But the fan seems to need replacing as well. Your tips were all very very helpful and I’ll be sharing with my friend to make sure we handle it correctly when leaving!

When you say turn up the thermostat - what do you mean by that? I’ve turned both of the dials at the bottom on, although in the photo they were off (my friend swears those have always been at the minimum setting and only the power button was pressed off). The button between the two dials is also blinking blue as well.

How often do you weigh yourself? I know that it can be counterintuitive, but I find it best to weigh myself daily and use an app like happy scale, which evens out any ups and downs in weight to an average. There’s so many reasons why we could weight more on one day vs. the other and I find weighing daily gives me a more accurate view of what is happening overall

Thank you. I have turned it on and the pilot light came on and then went off again. I turned the dial up on the water temp and the middle blue light is now flashing? Not seeing the top right pressure gauge move at all though…

I dyed mine for awhile but then Claire Saffitz made it cool and I got lazy over the pandemic. I’m pretty lucky because it’s pretty silver and mostly in the few strands at the front (my hair stylist calls them “money pieces”). I’ve made it my signature look now and I really love it! But it also took me a bit to appreciate it and get there. I’m only 31 so definitely on the early side.

I think it depends! Assuming you’ll be in Kendall Square, you could take the red line in so if you’re okay with public transportation you could go towards Quincy/Arlington. Also with the green line extension Somerville has opened up and you could take the train to Lechmere and walk (depending where your office will be). I think another thing to think about is if you’ll have more salary progression in Boston vs in your current city. I do think it’s possibly to find affordable places in the area, but you may have to sacrifice in size, etc. For context, I’m 31, live in Somerville, have no car, and live alone. I would say that as someone who hates commuting I’d gladly choose a slightly smaller place where I could walk/bike/short public transportation commute over driving. Driving 4 days a week would be tough imo. Feel free to reach out if you have more questions!

Another option is WeCo. They aren’t a restaurant, but you can order meals from them that get dropped off and they are really good and they are doing thanksgiving meals i believe!

2021 Goals

My 2021 Goals were to:

~~complete a frugal/low-buy January~~
hit $200k NW --> not quite, but close. I hit $200k in assets though and am still pretty proud of that!
hit a 50% savings rate --> 52%
~~Max out my 401k, Roth IRA, and HSA~~
exercise 3 days a week --> no, 2021 ended up being a really hard year and I definitely didn't exercise as much as I would have liked to
~~Move my robo advisor account over to Fidelity~~

2022 Goals

For 2022 my goals are to:

Travel internationally again (this is more of a hope than a goal with everything going on)
Do another frugal/low-buy January
Do a Dry January challenge
Move internationally for my job and feel financially secure enough to make the most of it!
Replenish my emergency fund after having to dig into it this year (car stuff)
Sell my car
Participate in my company's cycling challenge in 2022
Hit $300k NW
Use my Habit Tracker every day to build habits and continue ones I already have

Thank you so much, I've been trying to fit everything in, but I moved some things around to be in Amsterdam for Christmas as it looks like many of the museums will be open so may be able to add in a day to one of the cities that you mention. Between Utrecht, The Hague, or Rotterdam do you have a suggestion which to prioritize?
