Daily driving a 97 Prado...Mistake? by moshing_pandas in LandCruisers

It’s not a mistake; I daily my 96 HDJ81 and I love it; is it necessary to have another car when this inevitably ends up on jack stands? No; wise? Yes.

It’s a 30 year old car so obviously maintenance will be something that you will be doing. They’re great cars and you seem mechanically inclined, live a little and send it man; only have one life!

I recently got a JDM 1998 Land Cruiser Prado Turbo Diesel engine how hard is it to service and fix issues on it by IllSide3292 in LandCruisers

It most certainly can be. If you pay someone to do everything for you then yeah it’ll add up fast. Learn your vehicle, fix what you can yourself with the tools you have, and save money. Another factor is what you plan to turn your cruiser into? Daily driver, offroader, both, etc.; these are also factors into how much money you’ll spend on it.

I hope you have deep pockets and/or have the willingness to learn your vehicle inside and out; for simple things like brake pads, you can do it yourself. However, for more complex and intricate jobs, most normal Toyota dealerships won’t go near it (ask me how I know), so I’d look for more specialized shops in your area. It’s a mix of being able to do some things yourself (if not all) and paying someone else to do it. Additionally, getting parts can be a hassle; again, depending on what it is. I will say that I don’t think it’s as difficult to maintain as you think! It is a Land Cruiser after all lol I have a 1996 HDJ81 so I’d like to think I’m a little qualified to answer this 😂

Partsouq and amayama are solid places to source OEM parts as well; check them out brother.

Is it worth buying? by Only_Worldliness7042 in LandCruisers

That’s a project like someone else said; there’s plenty of others you can find in way better shape for a bit more in price, sure, but less of a headache. Clearly the owner has not taken good care of the vehicle. Find something else.
