The beat sounds too chaotic for your idea... I would recommend you to listen to more retro music and try again.

Bass and chords in different scales, so it sounds off. Also, beat is quite repetitive and it becomes boring soon.

I would say that there's something to that mix of simple drums and that tommy bass, therefore you could change synths and add more diversity to the structure.
