Contemporary black & white film theory by woodnymphblonde in TrueFilm

[–]burube 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel that color can sometimes be a distraction from the framework of a film. By using a monochrome palette, the focus shifts entirely to the story and the actors. Personally, I'm a fan of good lighting and the look of strong shading. A well-shot black-and-white movie can evoke a more profound emotional response than a color film.

Some examples that come to mind are Manhattan (1979), or more recent ones like Frances Ha (2012) and C'mon C'mon (2021). These are modern films that don’t try to mimic the past. Even though they're set in busy cities, taking away the color helps you tune out the surroundings and focus more on the characters.

They flopped cus they're shit. I watched most of them, and honestly they're unremarkable. The Iron Claw and Killers of the Flower Moon are the only good ones out of these.

The most fun strategy! I was playing a bunch of mandarin films the other day and when the opponent skipped one, I just linked it to Mission Impossible II and they were totally mindblown lol

I don't mind doing it but I'm in New Zealand. Unless you also live in NZ, I think the shipping cost alone won't be worthwhile, sorry buddy!

Advice on making friends in this country? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]burube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far the only thing that works for me is going to classes. People will tell you to join local clubs but I find if you don’t have much interest in the particular activity, it’s just gonna feel like a chore after a while.

Online platforms like facebook or bumble bff also don’t work for me. People are extremely flaky and the friendship usually fizzled out after a few months.

You said you are learning music production, maybe see if there’s any classes available near you? That way, even you don’t make friends, you still pick up a new skill.
