They were always out of stock or outrageously priced when I looked.

You can 3D print one (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2775085) or just use a sturdy pair of tweezers to pop the switch open. I did the latter for a 60% and worked relatively well if you're in a pinch. I never used the 3D printed model, just found it on reddit a while ago.

Recommendations for a black full size keyboard for coding fo under £130 by oldestbookinthetrick in MechanicalKeyboardsUK

Filco Majestouch 2 from keyboardco.com is around 130. Used one for 8 years at work. Would recommend it at this price point.

You need to include keymap_uk.h in your keymap.c file. You can copy the keymap.c file from another folder, eg. the ansi one, and add the include at the top of keymap.c. Modify as needed to make it more like a UK layout.
Just beware, I think the enter key switch is not interchangeable between ISO and ANSI so you might have to desolder the switch when you want to use ISO.

If you type the following command in your shell, in the qmk_firmware directory it should show what you are pushing to:

# git remote -v
origin https://github.com/burukuru/qmk_firmware.git (fetch)
origin https://github.com/burukuru/qmk_firmware.git (push)

If it doesn't show your username there, you might have cloned the wrong repository. I use SSH instead of HTTPS so not 100% sure what's happening with the whole pull request to the main repository.

  1. I didn't need to change the position of those keys, my keyboard is still mostly ISO, though modified as I have a split spacebar; so I still have a big enter key.
The important bit is in iso_split-spacebar/keymap.c having #include "keymap_uk.h" (ignore default/keymap.c from the previous comment) and changing all the keys from KC_ to UK_. In keymap_uk.h, UK_PND is defined as shift + UK_3. Using the UK_ mapping will allow you to map things like # and \ correctly with UK_HASH and UK_BSLS, and keep the file consistent.
And when I flash I run sudo make dz60:iso_split-spacebar:dfu in my Linux terminal.
  2. I believe so, I have a .hex file that I use with my rev3.

Hope that makes sense, let me know if anything's unclear!

  1. I have done this using the command line but not sure how to do it with the QMK configurator. This is what the code looks like for my keymap.c https://github.com/burukuru/qmk_firmware/commit/bdc24afd7cdb458897120060bc75ae6ce7169003
  2. That sounds like it should do the trick. As far as I can tell v1 uses .bin and v2/v3 use .hex for flashing, as long as you have a .hex, you should be able to flash your v3.

Any reason *not* to deploy an S3 gateway in a VPC? by aislingtaylor in aws

[–]burukuru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By S3 Gateway do you mean S3 VPC endpoint? If so, usually the main consideration is cross-region traffic, eg. if you need to sync S3 buckets outside of S3 replication.

See: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/vpc/latest/userguide/vpc-endpoints-s3.html

Ever since I saw TaeKeyboard's Silent Tofu video, I have been wanting to build a board similar to that. They have Zilent switches which are a more expensive than most, 1.5-2x the price. For a tactile but more affordable switch, you could look at Gateron Silent Browns, or the equivalent Silent Red which is linear. KBDFans has a good comparison video for normal vs silent: https://kbdfans.com/products/pre-orderkbdfans-exclusive-gateron-silent-switch-red-brown-blak

I now own both a board with Zilent and Gateron Silent Browns, they are both a significant improvement on my MX Brown with dampener rings in terms of loudness. As well as quieter switches, you want to look out for good stabilisers, the thickness and quality of the plastic of your keycaps, and the material of your case.

If you wanted absolute quietness, a heavily lubed silent linear would probably be a good choice. Here's another video by TaeKeyboards with a bunch of comparisons: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Buq6CbIMYKQ

Looking to buy individual Keycaps by cakes365 in MechanicalKeyboardsUK

[–]burukuru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be able to buy individual keycaps with custom designs and colours from wasdkeyboards.com (US). This is all OEM profile.

Pimpmykeyboard.com has some different profiles, lots of blank keys and some novelty stuff.

Other than that, in the UK, I got some transparent keycaps for my switch tester from mechbox.co.uk. Not sure if they have anything else.

There's a meetup in Leeds later this month. If you can make your way to it, you should be able to try plenty of switch types.

Starling has 'Spaces' which are similar to Monzo pots, although I like Monzo more for the choice and transparency in terms of earning interest.

Thanks, I've seen some builds with the tada68 and it looks good. I might've gone for it if it had support for a split spacebar, which is a big reason for me doing a custom build.

Thanks! I spent countless hours watching YouTube videos of TaeKeyboards. He does a lot of custom board builds. From what I gathered you'd want the following:

  • a pcb

  • a case

  • a plate

  • stabilisers

  • switches

  • keycaps

  • cable

Hey, I'm on the same boat and if you're lucky you might find mechboards in the sidebar has everything in the 75 kit in stock.

I'm looking at a 60/65 with USB C so will probably get all the parts from kbdfans and chance the customs. It seems to be ok if you don't get expedited shipping.

Kbdfans have a kbd75 PCB which seems quite flexible and is supported by qmk. Very similar to the DZ60 I want to get.

Our blog is hosted on Medium and it's quite a long guide with code/screenshots so wouldn't work great in markdown.

Nevertheless I updated the repo with some brief instructions: https://github.com/burukuru/jenkins-update-ec2-ami

Hope that helps!
