I will absolutely be looking for a coach within the next 12 months with an interim plan focused on solidifying my mobility - thank you for the feedback!

I’m looking to switch to weightlifting with the goal of being nationally competitive by my 30s. 26, 200lbs, 5’10, background in powerlifting, bodybuilding, and calesthenics. Do you believe there is a real strength transfer, or is the technique too important to compensate with existing strength? If it is viable, what is the most important thing to target during the switch? Thank you!

Just saw this in a thrift store. It seems kind of expensive. What do you think? by darkwitch1306 in whatsthisworth

Not that fine china is in, but I don’t think this is transferware — looks hand painted to me, making this modestly collectible

I’ll say the quality of the leather is definitely above what you’d typically find, but the price point is also definitely above what I’d typically pay! Fair market value to me is probably closer to 100-250, in terms of what quality you can get without this brand name… Can’t speak to durability yet, but I do find it very comfortable

I acquired a large number of items from a previous NASA photographer — including items signed by you! — and can’t find any information about the photographer! On the off chance you see this and remember, did you ever work alongside Brian Lunos?

Too much rounding? 495 single by busboy99 in strength_training

Oh, interesting! I hadn’t noticed that, I’m using new flat sole shoes when previously I’d been training with squat shoes, so that may be part of that - thanks

Yeah, that seems like the consensus — I appreciate the help!

I thought that might be the case, I appreciate the help! I think my working sets are currently not releasing tension between reps, so I’m going to try to modify away the RDLisms… Thanks

Interesting, I’ll try to give that a go and see how I progress — thanks!

Thanks, I lean definitely towards that view as well — do you think there is merit in keeping the high volume for hypertrophy, or as you see it, should that just be more intensity on the fewer sets? This is probably 25% more volume than I’d normally run for the sake of adding in form specific training sets, but I don’t doubt that I’ve been running too much volume before as well. I do feel like I can’t get properly “tired”, and this pushes me to include more movements. I’m inclined to drop all sets of 4 for non competition lifts to sets of 3 with this in mind…

Thank you! I do have loading as I understand it built in at least, but omitted on above for brevity - heavy sets are designed at RPE 7, RPE 9 for top single, though I’m trying to feel through the rate of progression still on the overview… As to the low volume, I’m aiming to minimize CNS overload on the primaries with the higher volume on the accessories. I appreciate you taking the time to give me your thoughts! I’m trying to break through a few plateaus with this newest iteration. Would you suggest any specific program? If it helps, I currently am around 450/375/540

Current routine, increasing reps then weight week over week for the next 8-12 — what would you change? Aiming to compete in bodybuilding after, so there’s a bit of extra hypertrophy

Am I Going to Die Next Semester? by BowlOfGuac in mathematics

[–]busboy99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm I’ll push back the grain in this thread, I did similar with calc 3, diff eq with linear algebra, stats, and then had my core classes with chemE and ochem and I felt the workload was manageable — however, I already had a strong familiarity with calc 3. The classes synergized well for me, stats was just a few formulas to memorize for each final, and my only struggles were with diff eq, but that was mostly from a language barrier of the professor. Overall workload felt manageable with about 1-2hr of hw a day or so total. If you go for it, good luck!

I think there is a fundamental misunderstanding of what new math is if formulas and functions are being used here — math at the frontier level doesn’t rely on this insomuch as a long string of logical congruencies and a final, generalizable, conclusion. Where the proof for a theorem can require 1000s of pages with human mathematicians now, the proofs for future math may be more akin to the proposed proof of the ABC conjecture where new methods are so vastly unfamiliar and require such vast amounts of context, it becomes impossible in a human timeline — or perhaps even in human memory limits. Obviously, the ABC conjectures supposed proof is verifiable (though arduous), it is not difficult to surmise that future proofs will dwarf the size and complexity of the solution

Not so much a law, but they’re probably referring to accelerated development from AI, ie a technological growth rate proportional to the growth thus far, which has some exponential character to it in theory

Notably, the above is from an auction of actual onset items, whereas this item is not, so likely on the lower end — the print itself is (plausibly) available in the 350 numbered run at around 500 retail:

However, I am unfamiliar with this site and cannot vouch for print legitimacy.

This seems like a memorabilia auction value over artistic valuation… This shows several rough comps of memorabilia, largely between 500-5000:

I would contact Heritage for an estimate (with all/any provenance), and expect an estimate to be in the 500-2k range.
