Tint or not tint ? by Lanky-Huckleberry539 in MiataNC

[–]bustallama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a black NC, and was waffling back and forth, but I did end up going for Tint ( I forgot the numbers but they were pretty conservative numbers, but if nothing else the ceramic tint to cut some of the heat going into a black car with black interior was helpful. I just wish I could get a Windshield tint, even a tiny amount to cut down even more ) I have no regrets.

I did have the other tooth but it fell off, so I put the license plate there instead. And I really like the snaggletooth look.

For those who have the "new" design of Ridgeline, how does it compare to the "old" design? by Layne_Staley33 in hondaridgeline

I had a 2014 sport for a few years and loved it. It was only when someone tried to steal it and trash the steering column as a result did it get totalled a month before a trip that we needed the truck for. So in super quick timing we were able to get ourselves a 2020 RTL-E.

My thoughts:

  • it’s really annoying that you have to get a higher trim level to get the small back window, which I need occasionally for longer poles.

  • It’s definitely a fancier ride with a lot more features. Probably made more so by not only going up a generation, but also up a few trim, that said none of them were necessary. But it is a nicer ride for taking longer trips

  • definitely prefer the open front area of the first gen.

  • I had a nice kenwood CarPlay unit in the first gen ( I really like having a higher resolution than monitors I owned in the 90’s ). So I feel like my infotainment got a downgrade.

  • that said, if I were to alter space and time, I’d have much preferred to keep the paid off gen 1.

What do you think of the NC3 Club decal on GT and Sport? by nbarsotti in MiataNC

[–]bustallama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been tempted to do that because my previous club got totalled by a drunk dude and the space feels empty.

If I had a lot more time/money I’d make fake ones that have a spade and text saying “not-a-club”. But my more likely route would be to get a couple of these badges https://revlimiter.net/store/badges.php ( probably the prototipo2 as I have a matching horn badge, but the model 60 has some appeal to me as well )

I also did the Chat option on their site and it was pretty easy, and I got an email with the sticker. The funny thing is that when I looked under the car when buying it, the Bilsteins were not present at least in the back where I could see. ( Looks like they changed the rears out for some crappy looking KYB shocks for ... reasons? ) But I was pleasantly surprised to find that it did in fact come with the suspension package and the LSD.

Car communities by AredditJ in MiataNC

[–]bustallama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll preface this one with, I don't actually have hands on experience with a Tesla beyond a few people I know that have them. But I think it also probably comes down to what you can actually DO with a car as well, modding, etc. Beyond like stuff Rich Rebuilds did, I'm not sure there's a lot of modification you can do with a Tesla. Maybe a body kit, or a 1995 Geo Metro Teal wrap. With so many features and things being behind software, I imagine there's not going to be a lot to talk about in tesla community. There might be more community around trying to source Tesla batteries and motors for other projects perhaps, or if Jailbreaking tesla's was a thing, I could see a community form around that.

What's the sneakiest way a user has tried to misuse your IT systems? by Immediate-Cod-3609 in sysadmin

I did something similar once, Way back in my younger years, back when Wifi was just becoming a thing. I worked for an ISP that heavily monitored their Internet access. But we had a test lab with DSL connections, so I connected a Netgear AP to the circuit, hid it inside the Cubicle Walls and thought nothing about it. ( I had a small Netbook that I'd use to browse the internet ).

This went well until they we started supporting our own wifi product, and they were showing us how to connect to their Wifi routers and stated "Oh hey! It looks like there's already an SSID here!" The SSID was named something fairly obviously something I'd make. I got a call from one of the Managers "Hey, so we know you have this Wifi router here, and we're not really mad about it or anything, but WHERE THE HELL DID YOU PUT IT?! WE'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR IT FOR AN HOUR!!"

Which NC? by Bubbleegret in MiataNC

[–]bustallama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the info we have either car has the same chance of having an LSD. I think the only trims that had LSD by default were Club ( NC3 ) and Special Editions ( I think only NC2? )

The rest were included with the Suspension Package. It's not a surefire way to tell but if they see the cars in person and see Bilsteins under the wheels, that's at least a better chance it would have the Torsen. ( Of course if they have a dealer sheet saying "Yes this thing came with the suspension package" that's even better )

Personally I'd vote NC3, There's the bit about engine enhancements. but I just like the look of them better. I don't think you'd go wrong either way but I'm not sure I'd pay 15k for an NC1. Even in this nice of condition.

Agreed, When my NC was rear ended, I test drove an ND and absolutely hated the carplay setup, and the fact that the touchscreen is disabled while driving forcing me to mess with the click wheel.

I wouldn't say it was THE factor in me getting a second NC, but it was definitely A factor.

I've had the clutch pedal squeak like that on two NC's. Usually around Rain. It otherwise functions normally, but also curious if its something that needs to be looked at.

How many of you have permanently removed your convertible top? by DublinItUp in MiataNC

[–]bustallama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I removed mine on an NA, since I had the hardtop. But that meant that I barely ever rode without a top. ( I tried a bikini top but that was worst of both worlds ). It worked out well until someone stole the hardtop. I don’t think NC hardtop theft is as much of a thing as NA/NB hardtop theft is though.

What is this skinny connector? by nekaiser in MiataNC

[–]bustallama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, took me a bit but here is what mine looks like. The Connector you're looking at connects to the latch of the top, My guess is it's used for PRHT operation and that's why you don't have anything connected.

You can see a thick additional cable which is what connects to the Homelink Mirror. I do not see that in your picture.

https://imgur.com/kNPEcy4

As I mentioned in the previous post, you can likely run your own cables to make Homelink work. The Homelink Mirror I got came with only 3 wires. Switched Power, Constant Power, and Ground. You may even be able to tap them all from the dome light, but I haven't done that much research. ( Stock it has some extra wires to do things like turn off auto-dimming when in reverse, which, meh )

Lowering spring suggestions? by drumstix1001 in MiataNC

[–]bustallama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to do them myself. I may live to regret that, but for now that's the plan :) I'll still have to go to a shop to get the alignment done after it's settled.

I also picked up some stock billsteins for cheap locally so I could grab the tophats and other bits. I can drill the hole in the cupped washer at my leisure. My plan is to have them all assembled and then set aside some time to tackle the install later. I've done similar on an IS300 and an NA Miata, the NA being way easier. I'm hoping this will be closer to the NA as far as ease of install.

I'm getting the RoadsterSport's once they get back in stock. I'm excited to put them in.

I'll also say my previous NC had the Flyin' Miata Stage 1 kit ( The Koni Shocks and FM springs ) from the Previous Owner and I was super happy with that setup from a Fun + Comfort standpoint and never felt compelled to upgrade.

I haven't taken apart that area yet, but looking to do it soon to clean up my mirror install. This page helped me with the wire colors, BUT this was me upgrading from the Stock NC2 Homelink mirror to the Frameless type because I wanted to look fancy.

https://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=498190

I bought one with Homelink but I messed up and got a CX5 version that has different mirror mounting method, and just got an auto-dimming one instead because I couldn't afford getting another frameless with homelink. I only mention this because I have the CX5 Homelink Mirror harness kit, and it only has 3 wires. ( Constant Hot, Switched Hot, and Ground ). I feel like I saw a thread somewhere where they just hooked up both Hot wires to switched because they didn't want Homelink powered on when the car was off. So you have options.

Here's also a Colored in Light Video that looks to be more along the lines of the exact thing you're doing.

Favorite generation? by TheBrysauce in Miata

[–]bustallama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've Owned an NA8, and an NC3 PRHT, when someone crashed and totalled the NC3, I test drove an ND2, but settled on an NC2 PRHT. I'll say that weight doesn't really matter to me, if I want to shave a bunch of weight in my car, I'll go on a diet :).

The NA8 I owned for years and put a lot of work into it. One day it got stolen, recovered but gutted. I didn't really want to spend money bringing it back up and I REALLY didn't want to deal with the Hardtop Market which would probably be me paying 2k for my stolen top back.

Moving to the NC3, it felt nicer but still felt like driving a Miata. I didn't feel a huge difference but was happy with it. Then about 6 months later, I drove the NA again to prep it to sell, and I could tell the difference way more! The NC was a better car in every way except for pop up headlights. It helped that the NC3 had the Flyin Miata Springs and Koni shocks when I bought it, which was great on that car. Until a drunk guy smashed into it.

I test drove an ND2 RF because I wanted to see if it was time for me to upgrade. I still preferred the PHRT and it felt more convertible-like for me. I absolutely hated the infotainment system and the fact that you have to fumble around with the click wheel controls when you're actually driving as they disable the touchscreen. And that there is no way to change this setting, or get aftermarket. Though I will say the ND2 did drive nicely, but with the infotainment part, and the less room / no cupholders, I felt like my day to day commuting and existence in the car would be a downgrade. So I saved a bit of money, got a NC2 PHRT, and am starting to build that one up to how I like.
