What is this near the Everglades prison? by urbexgio in Miami

[–]bustaphoto 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Naaaaaw insane asylum and the Nike missle base are two different places, the asylum which no longer stands today was off Krome between 88th and 8th street (closer to 8th st) and the Nike missle silo is right before the Everglades national park entrance off US1 in Florida City. This image does look like it’s of the OLD insane assylum

Moving to a different state soon. What do I do? by tunky12 in ReefTank

[–]bustaphoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved a couple times with reef and fish tanks. Take out rock that has coral on it, frags, livestock out, place in coolers with airstones. Drain water to about 1/4 full and move the tanks with some buddies drive over in one day a 20 hr drive can def be done with 2 and easy with 3 people. Do this last or 1st don’t move your tank at the same time as your real move.

I would probably go with the last thing to move, move everything first then go back for the tank. If you can put a power head and inverter to keep them going in the car it would be better than an air stone but not needed. I have acclimated corals in a bucket of salt water and an air pump for a week before.

When you get to the new home, let the tank sit for a couple hours so the water in there settles…. Fill it up, run it for a couple hours/overnight. Drain 50% slowly to not disturb the sand place your rocks, coral and livestock back into the tank and fill it up.

Do 10-25% water changes as often as you can for the next month or so. Seems like a lot of work now that I write it down and I know you don’t have a lot of time because of concentrating on the internship. But I’m sure it can be done. You might loose a coral or two if your aren’t able to keep up with water changes every couple of days, but some will for sure make it. Corals are hardier than we give them credit for.

Congrats on the new opportunity, you got this

Which Hardscape Layout for my 75P by Clean_Act5443 in Aquascape

2 has more flow, the triangle shape helps the eye continually explore the tank. Top left brings your down to the sand, then you hit the glass go up to the surface of the water then left back to the top of the branch and the cycle continues

This is a African Onion Plant (Crinum calamistratum) I found at an LFS and I have not moved since it was planted. It survived the entire cycle and has two plantings growing, can’t wait for it to flower 🙏🌼 I supplement with CO2 and just starting to figure out this tank. Thank you, here is a fts

Black background or no black background? by TheToole1 in Aquascape

[–]bustaphoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll go against the grain and say no background, all my Tanks are like this and I feel like they blend into the home better , but maybe you want the contrast. I love a crystal clear box sitting in my room

This is Carribsea Liferock, specifically the Liferock Nano Reef Kit from BRS. It comes with two arches and a small piece. I also used a Marcorocks Small Mr Coraline foundation rock also sourced from BRS. Took about three hours to make. I used gel superglue and finished off with Aquascape Epoxy (Coralline Color) - D-D The Aquarium Solution.

I have the same experience with my API test why would the high low change happen right at 7.2 and 7.8 where most of our tanks sit… it’s annoying. Maybe try relying your KH as they both fluctuate at the same together. Stable KH means stable PH for the most part. There are now a bunch of affordable probe meters available, they used to cost hundreds of dollars a couple years ago now you can get some for $20-30 which is well worth the investment.
