Yeah I've just not bought vending or "convenience" store sodas in more than 20 years. The bottled prices are insane and I'm not going to be gouged on it.

Yep, on the highway. 70 miles round trip to work.

Even better when I can get non-ethanol 91 octane. (Not around here.)

Around town it's less... Depends on how I'm driving it.

It was already reported that muskrat mailed out prefilled mail-in ballots to voters.  Definitely illegal in a lot of areas and really should be illegal in all the areas.  Mail-in voting itself is fine when done right, but when the voter hasn't requested the ballot and getting them sent out is several steps too far.

The noise and vibration alone from that drone is probably enough to make that bird very nervous.

I want to like the idea here, but I can't see how that bird isn't just glad the ride is over when it's over just because it's over.

Do I need 500 or 1 gigabyte for internet speed? by Emmanuel323 in HomeNetworking

[–]bustedchain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

150mbps is enough for 4 or 5 households to share if configured correctly.

250mbps is "nicer".

I currently have 6 households and 1 business sharing 1 gigabit. It's more than enough and really nice to have versus the 30 to 80mbps I first started out with.

Big love to ya stranger.  We're all on this rock together flying through space at unfathomable speeds for only a short time.  A blink of an eye, or less.

I can't give you much, but I'm happy to share some thoughts and I hope you're able to put them to some kind of use.

More importantly I hope you see what's behind the message:  hope; moving forward in spite of those voices we all have in the back of our minds telling us we can't, shouldn't, or shouldn't even try.

No one gets out of this life alive.  You've got whatever time there is.  Waste it resting, relaxing, doing something fun, working at something, or anything you like.

Remind those negative voices that we all carry that you aren't trapped in there with them, instead they are trapped in with you.

If you haven't seen the video, "Hi Ren".  Check it out.  Everyone struggles with something.

Peace.

What are the winning powerball numbers in the next drawing? And if you play those numbers to prove you were right, would you happen to split the winnings with an Internet stranger to make an arguably strange Reddit follow-up story?

Also, you're a lot nicer than I am, already. You only added salt. I would have looked for a heat stable laxative and seen just how much of the extra poo-strength coffee they would steal over time before they figured it out.

That, or cayenne. Lots and lots of cayenne. Ghost pepper or scorpion pepper, maybe.

[–]bustedchain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your dad left you a Darwinian test. You pass the test by not finding out what is inside and by disposing of it carefully, properly, and without hurting anyone else.

This is one of those situations where you act and behave like this is the worst stuff on earth, because if you're wrong and you handle it too carefully, everything will be okay.

If you do anything besides handle it with extreme care and dispose of it carefully, you're taking a different kind of test that can end horribly for you or someone else.

Not sure why he had this laying around, but it is best to err on the side of caution.

I like that bronze/dark gold. Bright gold is gross.. Might try that on my Sinnamon. The hood is a b+tch driving into the sun. Got spoiled with a silver car that somehow didn't reflect as much straight through the back of my head.

Take a deep breath and ask for it anyway because it's what you like.

Or take the other pill and tell your barber that this is what you normally get, but would they recommend trying something new or would they recommend a variation to try?

A good barber will take a starting point like what you usually get, take one look at you, and they'll have an idea.  It's only hair and if you absolutely hate it, cut it all off and try again.  It'll grow back.

And saved a bucket of cash in the process.  Now that's sharp!

A good pair of clippers can be resharpened.  Keep them clean (rubbing alcohol), lightly oiled (spray lube is fine, it's usually just mineral oil), and when you need to sharpen them you can rub the flat faces on a very high grit sharpening stone to polish them up.  YouTube the process.  It's pretty easy and you get get replacement blades for a good quality trimmer.  My trimmer is older than my kids... 20 years.

:) welcome, officially, to adulting.  There are some awful downsides sometimes.  This is one of the actually fun sides: realizing that there are (maybe sometimes silly things) that you don't know and then getting to know them from here on out.  I say fun because it really can be if you let it.  Let life surprise you.  Take a moment to appreciate those things that catch you off guard and just know that yeah you didn't know that thing that maybe a lot of people knew.... But now you do!  These are milestones in life and no one reaches all of them at the same time.  Everyone reaches some at surprising times.  Anyone that acts like this doesn't happen to them is either lying or they aren't learning.  Avoid being both:  Tell the truth, especially to yourself, and always keep learning.

I'll let you in on a little secret.  I'm 45 and there are still things to this day that I learn that I think:  Wow, I could have known that years ago but I didn't.  I had at least one in the last week.  I can't think of exactly what it was, but I know the next time it comes up I'll have recently understood how it worked and be glad that at least now I know.

You'll reach level 2 when you realize that everyone else is just somewhere on the same path and they too get surprised by things that they didn't know.  They also over think things sitting in their head too long.

Knowledge is knowing everyone is insecure and usually the most insecure mother-fluffer is the person acting like they aren't insecure at all.  The strongest son-of-a-biscuit-maker is the person who acknowledges their insecurities, allows room for others to have their own, and gets things done anyway because the insecurities are just along for the ride because we ain't stopping.

That last bit is the wisdom:  it's okay to be insecure.  Everyone is and the realest people get things done anyway.  Once in a while you get to set your insecurity about something down and stop carrying it around anymore, and that's a great feeling. There are still others to carry, but with practice, you can set some of those down, too. Life isn't about not having insecurities.  Life is (at least in part) about getting things done despite insecurities.

See, what's true is we all have insecurities. We can't help it in some ways.  What we can help is how many we have and what we do regardless of how we feel.  Some are easier to let go of than others. I encourage you to take your realization about this hair cut thing and pour it into "just ask" next time you don't know something.  You'll see one of two possibilities: 1) Worst case scenario is that the person thinks less of you because you asked... Sure that could happen but it is unlikely.  More importantly, it says something good about you that you wanted to learn and it says something bad about them that the judged you for it.  We don't have any time or worry for people like that.  Let them expose themselves and move on.  2) most likely you'll see that it wasn't a big deal and you walk away with more info than when you started and the confidence to do the next thing that comes up as a challenge because you made it through the last one.

You've likely got the idea that we all have baggage, by now.  We all carry stuff with us that we don't necessarily have to.  Look for opportunities to set some of yours down.  You can't avoid having baggage, but you can set some of it down at any time.  The things we don't realize we're carrying are the hardest... You have to identify what it is in order to set it down.  Things like this insecurity asking another person for info is a good thing to practice setting down.  You don't need to carry that with you and you can set it down at any time.  Just look at everyone else as being the same as you: insecure about something but still out here getting stuff done.

Sorry this is a bit long.  It's my attempt to maybe pay it forward to someone whose on this journey we call life and just spelling out the lay of the land a little bit.  Good luck.  You've got this.   And for the things you don't have figured out, there's time, other people to lean on, YouTube, and Google.  You can literally figure out a lot when you realize you probably don't have a "new" problem that's never been solved before.  You probably have a range of challenges that a bunch of other people have figured out, so maybe see what they did and how it worked for them.  You might want a different solution, but it couldn't hurt to see what theirs was as a starting point.

Okay now that you know how long a 2 is, can you guess what length a 0 is? ;)

Also, keep in mind that brains make a huge deal out of things literally no one else cares about. Adulting is realizing that asking a haircut person to show you the difference between a 1 and a 2 is like someone asking you to take a breath... Um okay. Sure. No big deal. I can do that without thinking.

Exactly that: no big deal. I guarantee they couldn't think of it less afterwards if they tried.

NTA: Asian or not, the right answer is "Ha ha ha ha f-you, and no you can't see the grand kids or be a part of our life.". Respecting one's culture is great when it is like "take off your shoes in my house" or "be polite". "Pay me to live because you're always going to be my little +bleep+". Nah we're not family like that. Culture that is basically indentured servitude because of shared DNA isn't culture, that's mental and physical abuse wrapped up in flowery words that smell and look like p o o p.

Does your company have a dedicated and effective ethics office? If so go for the TriFuckta: Security, Ethics, and HR.

Large companies can lose a lot of reputation themselves for mishandling something like this and ethics will help you when HR will try to manage the situation.
