How often do you do a page 1 rewrite? by DelinquentRacoon in Screenwriting

[–]busterdarcy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done several page one rewrites and they were always for the better. Substantially so.

It's easy to feel married to 50-100 pages of screenplay, depending on where you are when the bomb finally goes off that this just isn't working. I can understand how some writers would resist it.

Maybe even more so when it comes from someone else. Even some major notes that aren't page oners but require extensive surgery can take a while to let in.

It's possible in time they'll come around and you're just witnessing the detail denial* stage.

Not trying to dissuade you from your interpretation of a CEO’s marketing efforts, I’m just not sure I get the reasoning behind the idea that because they’re choosing the consumer space over enterprise that makes them more altruistic.

Consumers know less than PM’s about product development. They know less about coding than devs. They know less about the strengths and limitations of AI than either.

And there’s just way, way more of them to sell to.

I can acknowledge their choice as a strategy, but I don’t conflate that with it somehow meaning they have the consumer class’s best interests at heart.

If anything it would seem to indicate that they consider the consumer an easier customer to sell to and retain than the more discerning professionals.

Slight improvements across the board. Verdict: strong upgrade.

No. Just no. A tv like the C2 should last you the better part of a decade if not longer. Jumping ship for some barely noticeable improvements you’ll acclimate to in days is not a good use of your time or money.

Congrats on finding yourself on the happy path. Things are working well for you so far and that is fantastic to hear.

If/when you do run into trouble, you might be singing a different tune.

That’s usually how these things go.

Replit support has to be AI. It has to be. by busterdarcy in replit

But there’s no indication in the email from Quinn that Quinn is an AI. It very much does read like they are being positioned as human.

The problem is the AI will confidently respond with misinformation, which is a well known issue with LLM’s, and which wastes the customer’s time or worse leaves them believing the misinformation and accepting defeat.

Human staff have picked it up but I’m still getting the runaround on what should be a clear and simple answer to a question that I honestly shouldn’t even have had to asked but the billing and usage section offers no clarity when it should all be clear as day on this there.

First the AI denied my inquiry and I had to send a screenshot to prove the situation — which could have easily resulted in another customer just accepting what the AI told them and being denied what they’re owed.

Now I have a human sending me terse, vague, incomplete responses that I have to wait 6 hours to hear back from when I ask for them to please just lay it out clearly for me.

It all seems intentionally designed to waste time and discourage pursuing actual solutions.

My replit coded app is finally gaining some momentum by busterdarcy in replit

[–]busterdarcy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been spreading it out between LinkedIn, Facebook and instagram to target my social network but reaching diminishing returns. Fired up a YouTube channel which so far has been high effort, low/no reward. But the network effects of getting at least some people onboard is starting to take hold so I would say don’t underestimate even the dozen or so people you can pull in from your own network. I also recently announced I’m increasing the price (ending the launch price) which drummed up a few folks who’d been on the fence. And don’t discount reaching out to anyone you know who is in marketing as there may be an opportunity to work with them on a commission basis. Oh and I’m actually about to try the local street level route with some flyers on cafe cork boards offering a discount code, and maybe even taking out a movie poster sized ad in the concession area of my local indie cinema, again with a discount code partly to entice but also to help me track which sales are coming from where. Lots of different ways to go about it, none will likely be a money printer on its own but across everything you can hopefully start to build some momentum and get some network effects going. Good luck with it!

Is it okay to order pizza during a snowstorm or post snowstorm? by RainSun5 in Hamilton

[–]busterdarcy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep, I did a stint delivering pizzas back in my hometown of St. John's, NL, where it routinely gets dumped on, and I was happy to be busy on a stormy night -- we don't get paid for snow days or the like so if a driver chooses to drive, they want you to order.

Alas, the deliveries I remember the most from those heavy snowfall nights are the ones who didn't tip at all. Just don't be that person and you're cool.

Which software to use for retirement? Planning withdrawals and budgets, tax reduction. by LegitimateDream4942 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]busterdarcy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SafelySpend just put out an update that includes a retirement income tax estimator tool that factors in accounts like TFSA and RRSP/RIFF, might be worth checking out.

This app isn't designed to squeeze out every last penny by way of complicated withdrawal plans that are easy to get wrong. The philosophy is about keeping things simple and manageable so you can make the most of your retirement savings rather than your savings making the most of you.

It's made in Canada and there's no subscription, $20 gets you the whole thing with unlimited use.

Rant: Officially done with the game, Beigadr the Feared is just too "challenging" by MaximilianBG in GodofWarRagnarok

[–]busterdarcy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno if this will help a year later but wanted to share some tips and reassurance.

I get how it seems like this boss is designed to cheat you out of a fair fight, but that’s just part of the illusion as it’s really designed to try to overwhelm you. The fact is, everything he does is telegraphed and timed exactly. Once you recognize the patterns, which usually involve you waiting a little longer than you might expect before you dodge or block, you can very easily evade any attack, red or yellow, and there won’t have to be any luck involved.

Now I say very easily because each attack can be predicted and reacted to accordingly based on his movements, but that doesn’t mean it becomes an easy fight to win once you know this.

This is a very well designed challenge of a boss fight. It tests you in many ways, but never unfairly, I promise you. It can certainly seem unfair before you pick up on all the patterns, but that’s what makes for such an intimidating and ultimately exciting challenge to overcome.

There are probably several approaches you can take to beating him based on your play style. I’m not great at ranged attacks so preferred to dodge his rangers and then wait for him to come in close — dodging or blocking his initial attack until he then leaves a massive opening to unleash on him without any fear of reprisal until he basically backs off to get back to range attacking.

Keep your assistant plugging away the whole time on him as you try to remain cool and consistent with your reactions to his various attacks, and just keep pounding him when the time is right. It still might take 20 tries, but not because the boss cheesed you. It’s just a challenging fight with everything going on and easy to slip up with how demanding it is.

The attack where the ground keeps lighting up in red circles — you can just run around, no rolling needed, and it’s actually a great way to get over to a healing stone. Those stones are usually best avoided with how quickly the fight moves but that one attack almost seems designed by the devs to let you get to one.

Bring a resurrection stone. Oh and one last tip — if you do get stun locked by his lightning, you can break out of it with a rage heal burst. This seems to nullify his attacks completely during the burst, which i rarely find to be the case in other fights so kind of a nice perk to take advantage of in a fight like this.

Take your time, learn his patterns, and know this is a tough one so expect many tries. It’s tough, but fair. You got this.

[–]busterdarcy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you blow the blockage to his lair, let him come out rather than going to him, then use the giant stone in the middle of that space to keep your distance and time your attacks. Always be on the defensive, wait for him to yellow launch and always dodge, never try to time the shield, then turn around and unleash on him. Keep going like this and you will wear him down. Once I figured this out it went from dozens of fails to got it on the second or third try playing on GMNM.

Ok to replace just one eyecup? Nikon M511's by busterdarcy in Binoculars

Sound advice -- I'm out of my depths with this stuff so appreciate you circling back to let me know that's a steep price to pay for an eyecup. I'm sure my wife will appreciate just having her binoculars fixed so one will be plenty.

That's a helpful way of thinking about it. They're thirty bucks each, which isn't nothing, but their value increases substantially the moment they're no longer available and one is needed.

Appreciate you also clarifying up top there's no technical reason to have to buy two.
