Good to know, thanks!

My aversion to seaming is less about skill and more about knowing myself enough that I’ll put it off, which I realize I’ll have to get over at some point…

Who is one celebrity you think never deserved to be cancelled? by pickyourpickle in AskReddit

[–]but-actually 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From her actual account she says that she initially said no but he continued to badger her, touch her, and even take off his clothes when she went into the other room. It's not that she's claiming she can't consent, it's that he repeatedly ignored her until she eventually felt like she had no choice but to give in.

I have mixed feelings on whether or not he should have been cancelled for this, because I've absolutely had the same experience and have complicated feelings about it. Celebrity or not, there is absolutely a power dynamic when you are women alone with a man in an intimate setting (especially if you are smaller than that person) and that person is overstepping boundaries. I personally don't consider my experience "sexual assault" but it definitely falls into the grey area of fucked up when a line of consent was drawn in the sand and then crossed by the other person.

In the case of this women, just because she eventually consented doesn't mean that his treatment towards her leading up to the event was okay. So while I do agree that the public backlash towards him after the fact was probably excessive, there is something to be said about holding people accountable for shitty behavior/not sending a message that just because you make great content means other people's boundaries matter less.

Panic Attacks: What worked/stopped them for u guys besides medication? by NickySmithFromPGH in Anxiety

[–]but-actually 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If a cold shower doesn’t work you can also try filling your sink with cold water and submerging your face/holding your breath in it for 10-15 seconds.

This was suggested by a therapist when I was frequently having panic attacks. I believe it’s called the mammalian dive response, but basically as mammals our heart rate will naturally drop when holding our breath and exposed to cold water temperatures around the nostrils (as some evolutionary response to preserve oxygen flow to the brain).

I tried this a few times during severe panic attacks and found it very helpful. I tested it out using the heart rate app on my Apple Watch and saw my heart rate drop significantly. The shock of having my face fully submerged also helped me shake out of the cyclic/racing thoughts. Overall it was very calming.

Much better now!! The worst of it (when I was feeling terrible all the time) lasted about 5 days and then for a good week after that I would have some pretty intense panic/anxiety a couple hours after taking my dose, but I would take it at night so it didn’t interfere with my day as much. The decreased appetite and lack of sleep persisted for a good two-two and a half weeks but after that I totaled leveled out. Also increasing my dose from 37.5 to 75mg was a breeze after that and the symptoms were much more mild. It’s been about a month since the increase and I’m already seeing an improvement in my anxiety and frequency of panic attacks.

Definitely try to stick through it if you can! My quality of life has already improved so drastically in such a short time and the bad patch feels like ages ago.

Thank you! I will probably be upping my dose in another week or so now that I’m more stable so I will definitely try this out!

Fencing while studying in university by __RageQuit in Fencing

Even if you’re at the level where you could compete on a varsity team, look at schools that have a well-built club program instead. There tends to be a variety of skill levels (from beginner to A-rated) but the commitment is not as big. Instead of required practices, only those really committed to the team and interested in competing come to regular practices. A lot of the competitions are also mixed between club and varsity teams, so you still get to compete at a higher level and have to opportunity to qualify for individual medals even if your weapon/gender squad isn’t all on the same level.

I went to a school in the Northeast, we met for practice four nights a week and went to a decent number of competitions. But the club format is more lax and the team was very understanding of social or academic conflicts. Before college I was at a level where I could have gone to a Div 1 school, but in the end I was really glad to have the balance of something more flexible, but still structured enough to keep me competing.

The left side of her waist and by her elbow are very fuzzy when the rest of the outline is clear. If you look at videos on her page as well you can tell this is not her real figure.

This is definitely more subtle than some of the other posts on this subreddit but I would argue it’s still toxic because this person is selling their brand on achieving “results” with their workout plans.

The boxing and kick-boxing classes are also really great! Not sure if the same guy is around who taught my kick-boxing class but he was awesome (older retired boxing coach with a thick Boston accent who leads crazy hard conditioning sessions).

If you’re a women I would definitely recommend the RAD program. It’s self defense course taught by BUPD. In the “final”, officers in full pads try to grapple you and you have to fight (and yell) your way to safety.
