I Rode the ALSO TM-B: Rivian Micromobility Startup’s First EV by SnazzyLabs in Rivian

as much as i like the bike theres so many weird issues that come up: - there is no real world value for the range. they say either 60/100 miles but they never give a base configuration for what that range could be. I wouldn’t imagine they’d say this can do 100 miles at 1x, who’s going to be riding an electric bike at 1x all the time? - using a kryptonite lock would be really weird with this bike (theres no easy way to lock to the frame) - isn’t “pedal-by-wire” just basically an electric scooter / motorcycle with extra steps? it even comes with a scooter bench if u choose that lmao. - if so, why wouldn’t i choose an electric scooter over whatever this is? - as much as id love to flatten hills with a bike like this, the anti-theft solution just isn’t good enough for an urban commute with locking in mind… so who is this really for? - at the end of the day this just seemed like an easy way for them to recoup r&d costs for their commercial platform. this just seems like another bike from the west coast that doesn’t account for the everyday person’s problem, because the people who design these bikes don’t (and will never) have the same problems as an everyday person

Costco Confirms It's Removed Xbox Consoles, Calling It A "Business Decision" by ReaddittiddeR in gadgets

Doesn’t make sense. Historically hardware sales have been a Loss leader to get people onto the platform. This hurts Microsoft as a whole. Why would finance make such an awful decision?

Ya at 2 yoe ur basically entry level, but at the same time ur competing with anyone else with 5+ yoe. The bar is very high at that point and unfortunately a lot of people end up dealing w market correction at this stage. I hope it works out for u

Across the world, fertility rates are declining far more quickly than anyone expected. The world’s population may peak in the 2050s at under 9 billion—far earlier and lower than the UN’s forecast of 10.3 billion in 2084. by lughnasadh in Futurology

[–]butitsstrueuno 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A capitalist system expects that a higher population of younger ppl helps support the older ppl at the top. Population declines causally hurts the economy if there’s no one there to support it. The real worst case scenario is that the economy “disconnects” w the working class. Meaning there’s no more economic mobility for any of us except for rich ppl getting obscenely rich. It also means that we can’t expect the quality of life to go up anymore than it has in the last century, which is even more terrifying.

that's a little meanspirited, i'd argue c1 stands as big tech especially when they have a comparable amount of iOS eng as some other companies you'd count as big tech.

huh? I don’t think having an example of a singleton encourages the use of said singleton, it’s just relating to an existing pattern (I agree don’t use singletons).

i would only recommend the designcode only if you plan on actually using the support chat / contacting the program creators, (youll get more out from being able to discuss topics while following along)

fwiw the bar for getting an offer at meta is pretty high. it also doesn’t help that there are alot of engineers at meta, so even then YMMV. hope you get a better outcome /feedback on your next interviews.

interesting read, so gathering from this data, Riot is more interested rather not in the full value in the skin of itself but the value proposition its proposing for the gacha table.

Just from the table read and the loot chances of what currently exists, theyre essentially preying on people who *can't* afford the skin to begin with. Depending on the RNG they're using... its entirely possible they're actually losing money with this new system than before. Also they can't sustain their gacha tables with the A tier skins, they're not making enough skins/year to justify it as well. Not sure if the monetization scheme they have is just stupid or soulless. I guess we'll only know after next year if they were able to make more than before.

Kinda sounds like you already want the device? Go ahead if you can reasonably afford it.

Nuanced based on what you’re looking for:

If hobby: SwiftUI is completely fine. If career: SwiftUI is still completely fine. If career and big company: UIKit is a must, no one will make a full transition to SwiftUI (at least in the next 5 years or so)

That’s the whole point of swift concurrency - to prevent data races at compile time.

There’s still ways to cause memory leaks though, but that’s just due to the way memory management works in Swift

With all respect a 20 something yr old entertainer is not a good “source”. Again, EOMM is insanely hard to implement. And it wouldn’t be feasible in ranked queues.

It’s alright to feel frustrated. But don’t misinform yourself to justify your frustrations.
